    Odd ping -a DNS issue

    Intermittent telnet smtp 25 failures...

First rule of troubleshooting teamed nics is to diable the teaming and test again. Once de-teamed clear arp entries and test again. Vince's speculation (I assume) that you may have a dup IP could also be the result of a misconfigured team. James

    VPN connection kills outside connection

Using the Cisco VPN as an example. The destination device (The VPN Server) usually has to be configured to allow the source device (The VPN Client) to bypass the tunnel for local traffic. I'm sure whatever terminates your PPTP connection needs to be configured likewise. I haven't tried this but...

    VPN connection kills outside connection

Regarding the Cisco VPN. Ask the VPN administrator to enable split tunneling. This will allow you to talk to your local LAN while the VPN is connected. Be advised however, that some orgs have policys against using split tunnelying. James

Could some introduce a software VPN client?

Yes, VPN is one of the underlying technologies that can allow you to remote desktop between computers at home and work. VPN's can be very easy or very hard to setup depending on your circumstances. Before we get too far down this rabbit hole maybe a free service like logmein.com would work for you?

Could some introduce a software VPN client?

VPN's are like cars. There are hundreds of different types available. Describe what you are trying to do. Describe what (if any) infrastructure you currenlty have in place. Finaly, describe your goals for this VPN.

Large subnet, is it a problem really?

I definetly agree with the /24 or /25. However, if you really don't want to change masks u can leave them as is and configure your scope to hand out only /24 or /25 addresses. Then i would use security mechanisims like ACL's or firewall rules to prevent any traffic from the /16 minus the allowed...
