Hi there..

I've been stressed over the past week over what is the right router to buy for my office.

I need a router to:

1.) Set up a teleworker from a remote office to our VoIP network. In other words, the router must support a VoIP capable IOS to set up call legs (dial peers)

2.) Set up a Site to Site VPN so the employee's extension is always reachable.

3.) Router must have switchports so that the user can connect devices directly to it

4.) Router must be capable of connecting either broadband DSL or cable

5.) Router's switchports must provide PoE (ip phones dont have power supply)

6.) [Optional] Wireless capable router.

I've talked to several Cisco "Product Advisors" and Cisco Partners and they all suggest the wrong stuff.. I don't know where else to go.

Since the router will be used by 1 person only, we're not going to pay too much for it, so we can't just buy a 2801 or anything like that. I'm looking for a 1700 or 1800 series router.

Thanks!..!!

Thanks a lot for your response!

however, none of those 1800 routers support an ip voice IOS so I cannot configure dial peers to setup a phone extension in a remote location. Any other routers?

You can try to use the Cisco callmanager Express on the HUB site to give the ip phone it settings. Are you sure that the 1801 doesn't have a release that support dial-peer configuration. If that the case go for a Cisco 1751V with the 4 port switch.

Regards

Thanks all for answering.

I took another look at what I need, and since it'll be a VPN connection I don't need to set up dial peers. The remote site will just behave like just another phone.

I've decided to go with the 871 + PoE option. Will just need to configure ephone dn, ephone in our main site.

Thanks!

Darn...I was going to suggest the 871/877...lol
