Having a struggle getting the 406V2 defaulted and downgraded to V3.2 SW load.

We have defaulted 100s of 406s but this one might have a defective boot rom.

Was able to erase config using both methods - esc at bootup and them AT - AT-X2 & AT-X3 and also after bootup - at-debug - eraseconfig & erasenvconfig. Both were successful but when I reboot with the 406 connected to our LAN - DHCP - as we always do - I can't find it in IP Office Manager as we have always been able to do - with just our 255.255.255.0 SNM setting.

So I direct connected our test PC direct to it - set PC IP to 192.168.43.1 and after another factory default on the 406 - used the default IP for it - 192.168.42.1. Manager find it but to access it I need the Service User Login. We know all the other Login/Passwds but never have had to use this one. Our IP Office servcie docs don't list it.

Any help? I just want to reload the 3.2 SW and then I think it will straight up and run right. Might be defective and need repair but won't know until we get access to it.

Disconnect the system from everything except your pc
Use the ipadres that amriddle mentioned and use a 4.2 manager (6.2) to open the config

You set you IP on the PC to 42.2 not 42.1 or 43.1. You can't be on the same IP as the system or on a different network.

Strange - I can ping 192.168.42.1 but Manager can't find the 406 via discovery>

Thanks for the tip on the IP on the notebook - late night -early morning fog

It will not if the Manager is on a different level to the IP Office software, it will still see it for an upgrade/downgrade though.

Riddle - IP it is set right now on the notebook and it is direct cable connect to the 406 - nothing else is connected!

Manager is 6.1 and we have defaulted many 406 - 412s that were 4.1 w/ Manager 6.1 and then "upgraded thwem to 3.2 successfully.

This is the first 4.2 SW load on a 406 that we have gotten in. But 6.1 should still be the best Manager version.

Riddle - are you saying the MGR 6.1 isn't fully compatible with 4.2 for all management work - connectivity - upgrade/downgrade etc? Why would I go back to a lower release MGR on the latest SW load 4.2?

I ready to try anything.

No, No, No To Administer a 4.2 system you need 4.2 Manager, 4.1 Manager will not allow you to open the config which is why it does not show in discovery. You can downgrade the system to 4.1 with that Manager but that's it.

The manager always shows as two numbers higher than the system so system 4.2 is Manager 6.2

ACS - IP Office Implement

Manager and modules always show 2 versions higher
So in your case 6.1 manager is a 4.1 verison
You need a 6.2 manager wich in real life is a 4.2 version !!!

ftp://ftp.avaya.com/incoming/Up1cku9/SoftwarePub/4_2GA_Builds/ADMIN/ADMIN4_2_4.exe Is what you need to Configure 4.2

Why do you send out systems as 3.2 anyway, your customers are missing out on some good new features.

Now when I select "upgrade" option from Advanced menu - the 406 if found and shows the 406 loaded w/ 4.2 w/ 3.2 set as the upgrade bin file in the working directory - which is what I want.

But the normal default PW we use for upgrde just kicks out of the upgrade and shows failed?

That should be password but it could be changed
So use the DTE cable again and do a AT-SECURITYRESETALL

Then try the upgrade again but you must use the 4.2 manager :)

Did you reboot your laptop after installing/upgrading Manager? If not do it.

Hey tlpeter this is like a tag team...your turn.

Peter & Riddle ... thanks for you help.

The MGR version is the issue as we haven't had a 406 or 412 in w/ 4.2 yet so we hadn't hit this snag.

Most of our 406/412 go out to our dealers as replacements for crashes units. We keep them at 3.2 as it is a safe load and so we don't pi** off our field techs who might run into the same issue as I did today.

Thanks again ... awesome forum and sorry for taking up so much white space and time.
