Having a struggle getting the 406V2 defaulted and downgraded to V3.2 SW load.

We have defaulted 100s of 406s but this one might have a defective boot rom.

Was able to erase config using both methods - esc at bootup and them AT - AT-X2 & AT-X3 and also after bootup - at-debug - eraseconfig & erasenvconfig. Both were successful but when I reboot with the 406 connected to our LAN - DHCP - as we always do - I can't find it in IP Office Manager as we have always been able to do - with just our 255.255.255.0 SNM setting.

So I direct connected our test PC direct to it - set PC IP to 192.168.43.1 and after another factory default on the 406 - used the default IP for it - 192.168.42.1. Manager find it but to access it I need the Service User Login. We know all the other Login/Passwds but never have had to use this one. Our IP Office servcie docs don't list it.

Any help? I just want to reload the 3.2 SW and then I think it will straight up and run right. Might be defective and need repair but won't know until we get access to it.

Its a 3.2 box, therefore the configuration settings and the security settings are separate. You need to reset the security settings. Go read the manuals.

Siz - thanks for the response ... BUT - it is a 406V2 w/ 4.2 loaded on it and we want to bring it back to 3.2 as we sell all our 406V2 at that SW load to our dealers and interconnects!

If we could get into it - I wouldn't have posted this in the forum. Did you read my post?

We now how to reset security and passwords once were in Manager ... the old config is defaulted and has already been erased thru the DTE port w/ Hyperterminal.

The need is to get the DEFAULT Service User Login. I guess I can always call my Catalyst IPO tech who probably knows it.

Football is not a matter of life and death-It is far more important!!!!

You don't need to open the Config to downgrade it, just go to Upgrade in your 3.2 Manager and enter the "password" password. After that try and get into it.

A/A is the login/PW for the main config login not for the Service User login. I have never had to login with this SU login before but we have never done a direct cable connect and used the default 192.168.42.1 IP address before either - always connected thru our network using DHCP and the 406 was assigned an open IP.

I misspoke when I wrote I was trying to "Open a Config" - just trying to "connect" via direct cable to the 406 - then we know what to do from there.

What is actually happening - didn't want to type this level of detail in the original post - is after we factory default this specific 406 via the DTE port - if we don't have it connected to our LAN - the default IP address is registered in the memory - 192.168.42.1 and Manager can find it when we select the Open Config command and the "Select IPO Device" discovery dialog box comes up and we enter the default IP address in the "Unit/Broadcast Address" box ... that is when I get the Service Unit Login dialog box that this entire post is related to.

If we default the 406 and have it connected to our LAN - DHCP - when it reboots after the default - it seems to get hung even though the startup process shows that LAN #1 got it's IP address from the DHCP server - so the boot process never completely finishes which is why we can't find the 406 thru our normal process of using 255.255.255.0 in the "Unit/Broadcast Address" dialog box. We have always used this method and DHCP has assigned one of our available internal network IP addresses to mod we are working on ... but not this 406V2 - which is why I wrote above in my first post that it may be defective. We are trying an end around direct connect to get into it and maybe in the "upgrade" from 4.2 back to 3.2 it will cleanup any corruption that is in the flash bootup memory.

Sorry for the very long post back - but Ididn't want to waste anymore time for our guys here who didn't really understand what we are trying to do.

The default login and PW for the Service User Login is really all I need unless someone else had had this same problem and an easier solution than we are trying.

Riddle - you have to have a unit selected to upgrade and that is what we are trying to do. Can't go thru the upgrade option in Manager without having a Unit selected.

Then you are doing something wrong

You can go to: File -> Advanced -> Upgrade
This can be done without opening a config !!!

Here a piece out if tech bulletin 71 (3.2 GA)

3.2 IP Office Security Enhancement
The IP Office system has the ability to control configuration access via authenticated
operators and passwords to determine the actions an operator has permission to
perform. These security settings are held within the IP Office unit, not the PC based
management interface.
To administer the Security Settings a new security ‘view’ has been added to the
manager application. This allows access to view or modify the security aspects of
one IP Office system.
The default settings for the manager security are such there are minimal differences
in operation when upgrading to 3.2 from previous versions. No further changes to
these default security settings are required when only performing basic
administration on the IP Office system.
3.3 Default Logins and Passwords
To use 3.2 Manager to administer a 3.2 system
The User will be asked for a ‘Service User Name’ and a ‘Service User
Password’.
• The ‘Service User Name’ by default is one of the following:
o ‘Administrator’
o ‘Operator’
o ‘Manager’
• The corresponding Service User Passwords are by default:
o ‘Administrator’
o ‘Operator’
o ‘Manager’
To use 3.2 Manager to administer an 3.1 or earlier system
The User will be asked for an ‘Operator Name’ and ‘System Password’.
• The ‘Operator Name’ to enter is typically ‘Administrator’
• The ‘System Password’ to enter is the original 3.1 or earlier System
Password
To administer the security settings of a 3.2 system
The User will be asked for a ‘Service User Name’ and a ‘Service User
Password’.
• The ‘Service User Name’ by default is:
o ‘security’
• The corresponding Service User Password is by default:
o ‘securitypwd’
To use 3.2 Manager to perform an Upgrade (3.1->3.2)
User will be asked for a ‘System Password’.
• The Password to enter is the switch ‘System Password’ (from 3.1, the
default would be ‘password’).
All System Level passwords are configured in the ‘Security’ section of the Manager.
They are stored in the IP Office configuration.
If any of the system level passwords have been changed from default values, these
changes will be retained when upgrading to 3.2.

Resetting Security parameters
In the event that default security settings are required, the following steps allow the
resetting of service user names and passwords without changing the rest of the IP
Office configuration:
1. Connect a terminal to the IP Office DTE port while the switch is running.
2. Enter the command ‘AT-SECURITYRESETALL’.
3. Enter the IP Office unit’s MAC address as confirmation (this is echoed in the
display after step 2).

Just found out that when doing the discovery with the default IP 192.168.42.1 - and I get the dialog box that says "No IP Office Selected. Do you want to access the switch directly using the IP address listed" - and I click OK and a device shows up with that IP address ... that it is a default connection to who knows what ... as I just tried it with the direct connect cable disconnected from the 406 and it still showed up. Must be a default device that comes up as it lists the SW load as (3.2) and no other mod is connected.

[] 192.168.42.1 ... (3.2) The SW load set in the Working directory doesn't have any affect on the (3.2) that shows up as I changed the directory to my 4.0 and 4.1 BIN file folder and it idn't change the (3.2) in the discovery window.

Crazy ....

When putting in the ipadres you do not push enter but push refresh !!!
Or do cancel and open again (ctrl O)
Then it will search for the ipadres you put in

But are you sure it has that ipadres ?
Use the DTE cable and attache it, then enter at and at-debug and then type system
This will show version and ipadress(es), you only need to convert it to real ipadresses

That's because when you eneterd the 42.1 address into the broadcast address box you pressed ok and not refresh.

Peter,

Thanks - good resource info.

May problem is I cannot CONNECT to the 406 - using direct connect cable and the default IP 192.168.42.1 or via 255.255.255.0 when connected to the LAN DHCP as we have for the past few years and never had a problem with connectivity to a 403 - 406 or 412.

What other steps can I take to fully default the 406 than the two mentioned above that have always worked?

Running Manager 6.1 (12) and the 406 had SW load 4.2 on it when it came in and we defaulted it the regularmethod we use - DTE etc.

What IP address are you giving yourself when directly connected?

ACS - IP Office Implement

You used manager 4.1.12 to open a 4.2 config ?
That will not work !!! you need to use manager 4.2 (6.2) to see the config

You clearly don't not much about the box you are fiddling with. I don't care if its a 4.2 box, since 3.2 the whole security changed, you know that or should know that.

Peter,

System record shows ...

#1 LAN to be IP - c0a82a01 - ffffff 00 1 200

#2 LAN to be IP - all zeros

Can you convert that for me?

c0a82a01 = 192.168.42.1

Notebook is set as 192.168.43.1

Sizbit - I am aware of that ... thanks!

I pressed OK only after trying refresh which is our normal procedure and no device showed up

Peter,

Which is what I am using for it when direct connected.

I'll check what it is when I boot it connected to the LAN DHCP and see if it changes.

It needs to be 102.168.42.2 as 43.1 is not on the same network as 42.1
