sleipnir214,
That reminds me of one of my co-workers years ago that sincerely stated, "We have a batch of bad fuses. They keep blowing" [smile]

The Light Bulbs have to be defective if they keep breaking!

I went to buy a new light bulb, but there are just so many to choose from. How do I know which lightbulb to buy. I know I don't want one from microsoft. Which is the best lightbulb for me? Isn't there an open source lightbulb that will work in all light sockets?

Open source light bulbs are too complicated. The threads are too close together and most users can't figure out how to get them into the socket. I would suggest a MS light bulb. It will be much more user friendly but may go dark periodically for no apparent reason. It also may be subject to light bulb viruses, but if you pay Symantec thousands of dollars per year they will guarantee that you light bulb will receive at least one virus a year.

The only problem is the Service Packs for the M$ light bulbs. The last time I installed a new SP, the bulb would only light up on even days. I had to get a different bulb, install the SP on an odd day, and switch the bulbs on a daily basis. Bummer.

I don't like the "open source" Light Bulb forums. The people are too snobby and high brow elitist for me. I prefer Microsoft's Light Bulbs' forums. I feel welcome there.

Jim

But if i use MS Lightbulb then my light can be hacked. How I know some hacker not start doing DNS (Denial of Sleep) Attacks by flashing my light while I try to sleep. Besides I heard Microsoft only use Open Source bulbs in their office.

I am very experienced user. I know lots about types of lights. Infact I know my current light problem is actually caused by the bulb because I stuck fork into wall socket to make sure that power was working.

I suggest a proper test of the wall socket would include standing in a bucket of water while inserting said fork.

(This was in the documentation from MSLN, Microsoft Lightbulb Network)

GlenJohnson , there are 2 Sp's to install, SP1 and SP2.
You HAVE to install the even AND odd Sp's for your problem to be solved!

MDXer , it can be hacked if it is an MS Light Bulb, but it cn also be hacked if it is another!

Install a Light Wall to protect you! Close all sockets you don't use and only forward those needed to the Light Server.

If you run MYSQL:

INSERT INTO wall (socket)
SELECT packet.lightbulb from packet
WHERE lightbulb="60 WATT"
;

If you are running MS SQL, please ensure you are running both lightbulb service packs.

Standing in a bucket of water whilst pressing a fork into an electrical outlet cannot be recommended by the forum management and as such should only be attempted at your own risk.

Does this lighbulb run on Windows or Linux? The Linux one is inherently better and has no security problems.

HEY! Light Bulb is not for free! If you want something to lighten up your life, you will need to pay for it.

Is it OK to use a "push-in" light bulb in a screw type socket? Is there an adaptor available?

Bruce

I would check with IBM for their global light-bulb interface adapter.

I feel the need to add a few more posters here:

1 to post a link to download an alternative to the standard MS lightbulb installation

3 or 4 more to debate the relative merits of the two solutions

>1 a month asking the above poster to e-mail them this alternative

I'm off to buy candles before this all gets out of hand!

Is it just me, or does anybody else feel the need to get a life?

Well I tried, but then I found no version of life is compatible with Windows.

(I'm sorry, couldn't resist, this probably just reinforces the truth of your question!!!)
