Hi,

Im in a bit of a mess here.
First off - I have downloaded the XPPROSP1 setup floppy app from microsoft.
When I run the app, it unpacks the discs, but then an error message pops up:
______________________________________________
16 Bit MS-DOS Subsystem
D:/Document/.../Temp/IXP000.TMP/makeboot.exe
D:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/AUTOEXEC.NT . The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS or WINDOWS applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the program.
______________________________________________

And then thats it, the app just stops.

Im not sure what this means to be quite honest, but I do have a few suggestions?

I needed the floppies in the first place (and didnt have them) - XPPro wouldnt install onto my HD from DOS, using a CD-Rom.
Unless I used a different OS to install from.

Now I have an 80GB HD which is partitioned into 2 parts - part1: 10GB part2: 60GB+ and some recycle bin space.
I ultimatley want to get XP Pro on the 1st part. As the second part is mass storage.
In order to get XPPro installed I had to put another hard drive (4.3GB) in replacing the 80GB as Primary Master. This other HD already had a copy of W98 on it, so I could run the XP Pro CD-Rom, and install the new OS on the first part of the 80GB.
This has worked(I am using XPPro now), BUT I have tried to take the 4.3GB(W98) HD out, and put the 80GB back onto Primary Master...when I do this, hard drives are recognised, but I cannot boot a thing.

This may be too much info though - as I ultimatley just want to be able to figure out why I cant make the XPPro setup floppies. When I ve figured that out, I wish to put the 80GB onto Primary MAster, and CLEAN INSTALL XPPro onto the freshly formatted first partition.

I just need to figure out why I cant do these setup floppies!
I am using the setup from Microsoft, and am using the correct SP pack (SP1) - Is there any other good reliable XPPro setup floppies available from free download?

Please help me get to the bottom of this, I need my computer back!!

Cheers (",)

Nice one bcastner...

I copied the autoexec.nt from repair to system 32, and the self extraction worked perfect.

Right....now Ive gotta go and format my HD and see if the setup works...fingers crossed.

Thanks again for the very quick reply :)
