I have a website and I would like to have visitors able to click on a link and have a .exe file run. How do I do this? A 1/2 empty glass + 1/2 empty glass = 1 empty glass.

    CD-ROM Troubles

In DOS the CD still can't be read. The error that "drive E: is not ready" or something to that effect is displayed after trying to access the CD. Factory made CD's - Not reading Burnt CD's - Not reading I know the drive is OK. I know the cable is OK. That leaves the IDE channel. Can this be...

    CD-ROM Troubles

Sorry if I haven't been clear: The drive works in other computers, but not my own. I have tested other drives that work in other computers but not my own. I have tried a hard drive in its place and the hard drive worked. The problem is that I can't access CD's that I put in the drive. The...

    CD-ROM Troubles

Tried the drive on slave, master and cable select on both IDE places and nothing worked. The cable has been tested and it works, and the drive has been tested and it works, and I have no idea what the problem is. A 1/2 empty glass + 1/2 empty glass = 1 empty glass.

    CD-ROM Troubles

I'm sorry for causing confusion. 1. Yes, I replaced the secondary IDE cable with a tested and working IDE cable. 2. The CD-ROM drive is all by itself at the end of the connector with jumpers set to master. 3. Yes, I have tested the CD-ROM at a DOS prompt. I tried not to skip any of the...

    Can't access the Internet

Done and done again. And still no detection of himem.sys. I had this problem on another computer and a new install of windows fixed that, but this computer doesn't have a working CD-ROM drive and Windows doesn't install remotely in DOS for some reason. A 1/2 empty glass + 1/2 empty glass = 1...

    CD-ROM Troubles

Hey, I'm back! I can access hard drives on that cable. This just complicates the problem more. Is it a selective problem that has something to do with Windows programming or what? I tried a clean install of Windows and still couldn't access the CD-ROM. :( A 1/2 empty glass + 1/2 empty glass...

    CD-ROM Troubles

I'm guessing the channel is fried somehow, because the drive is ok, the jumpers are ok, IDE cable is ok... The channel is located on the motherboard, correct? So I can't fix it without purchasing a new computer (or motherboard)? A 1/2 empty glass + 1/2 empty glass = 1 empty glass.

    Can't access the Internet

It was working previously, and then, one day, it just decided to stop working. I tried a clean install of windows on a second hard drive and got a connection. I downloaded windows updates and restarted. Now I get an error message that says "Himem.sys is missing. Please make sure it is in your...

    CD-ROM Troubles

I tried two other drives that work on other computers but not mine, even after drivers are installed. I tried a new IDE cable, messed with the jumpers, tried putting the drive on the secondary slave, and nothing worked. I can open/close and see the drive in Windows and BIOS, but the CD can't be...

    Can't access the Internet

It says that the host www.tek-tips.com cannot be resolved. I checked the ports on the router by switching the cables and it still didn't work on the first computer. However, I did check for malware and found "Windows ad manager". Could this be causing all my problems? I removed it but still no...

    Can't access the Internet

I have two computers connected to an RCA router in my home. One has the ip of 192.168.1.11, and the other has the ip of 192.168.1.12. Both have a gateway of 192.168.1.1, and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. However, one computer cannot access the Internet. The firewall is also unable to start...

    CD-ROM Troubles

The IDE cable is connected correctly, jumpers are correct, it is detected in BIOS as an ATAPI device, it has power, it opens and closes, it is detected in Windows as a CD-ROM drive, but contents cannot be accessed even from prompt. A 1/2 empty glass + 1/2 empty glass = 1 empty glass.

    CD-ROM Troubles

I just installed a new CD-ROM Drive- a GOLDSTAR 80???B *can't exactly remember the name* and it is detected in BIOS, Windows, and it opens and closes, but when I try to get to the CD by clicking on the drive icon a message pops up that says "E: is not accessible: the drive is not ready." Any...

    Windows Protection Error

I can't boot into safe mode. The same error still occurs. I can only boot into DOS. I checked the bootlog and the only thing not loading correctly is ndis2sup.vxd. Could this be causing the problem? A 1/2 empty glass + 1/2 empty glass = 1 empty glass.

When I boot up my computer, I get an error message that says- Windows protection error while initializing device VPICD. Can't find the CD-ROM Drive

I checked the bootlog, and the only thing that didn't load correctly was ndis2sup.vxd. Is this very important, and what should I do short of installing windows again? I have some files on there that I would like to keep. If I have to install again, does anyone know how to copy folders in DOS...
