I have ran in to this with Thumb Drives and external HDD
when you plug it in both act as a system drive so you can't just unplug it or the drive letter will remain and the OS will error

No beeps in BIOS could mean a bad Video Card or Mobo depending on the manufacture.
Look up beep count codes for your mobo.
I have installed XP dozens of times on multiple HDD and everything runs fine except you have to re-activate.

I use the software that came with my HDD and when I format my drives using this software it asks me if this drive will be a data drive or a boot drive.

Are you using a Windows OS?
If so I to had issues with the FireFox browser.
I dont think windows and FireFoxe like each other to well yet. you might have to use Internet Explorer to solve this issue until the guys at BSD and Microsoft can get along.

Did you link the mouse with the wireless base?
The mouse will not work if it can’t find the base....
Follow the MFG instructions to get the two to communicate.
