Restrict an Admin Acct to Change Passwords ONLY

THANKS Paul! That worked like a charm. Have a nice weekend!

How many passed A+ by studying independantly?

After working in the tech field for more than 8 years, I was required to get the A+ certification for a project. Most of my study time was spent on the Net and reviewing a couple of books. Took a few practice tests, then the real deal. It wasn't too hard, but I'm glad I studied some of the...

Can't start Internet Explorer in Windows XP

Simple question that you've probably already done... Have you checked the registry for entries related to msvcrl.dll? You may be able to get rid of the "component request" by deleting reg entries. Of course, you'll want to back up the REG before doing ANY editing. Best wishes!

    Server Reboots By Itself

One more smaller issue to check -- make sure that Recovery option for your Services are not set to Restart the Computer if the service fails to load. That could cause reboots, too.

    Mapping a network drive?

One thing to check is to make sure that the parent folder propagates permissions down to the newly created folder. You might also try taking Ownership of the new folder, then see if you can map to it. I hope this helps!

Restrict an Admin Acct to Change Passwords ONLY

Is there a way for me to give a user admin rights, across the DOMAIN (or for a certain OU), so that user can change passwords ONLY. I don't want the user to be able to do any other domain admin tasks. I simply want them to be in charge of changing passwords and unlocking accounts for a certain...

Win2003Svr - MOVING network share to SAN w/o downtime

So, I would use a command line like the following from the DC? robocopy.exe \\DCSvrName\%username% J:\%username% /ZB /R:3 /W:2 /TEE /LOG:c:\temp\robocopy_users.txt /MIR /COPY:DATS We use the J:\ drive for user docs... and their docs folder is named the same as their login name. Is this...

Win2003Svr - MOVING network share to SAN w/o downtime

We have a network share located on our DC. It's a large drive that hosts our users' documents, etc. However, the drive is filling up, so we want to *move* the files to our SAN. The permissions for each folder allows access by the user and Domain Admins *ONLY*. [Everyone group access has been...

    CommVault backups die EVERY day

Oops... forgot to add the Backup Type. We use FULL on everything except SQL backups -- one FULL and then Incrementals.

    CommVault Training

I agree with the consensus. I went to Atlanta for CommVault Training. Without it, our installation and configuration would have been a disaster. IMO, since it's so different from Backup Exec and the like, training should be a part of the purchase... and one that is well worth the couple grand...

    CommVault backups die EVERY day

I had this problem awhile back, but figured out that I didn't have enough mag space for the backups to complete. SO, I added a SAN drive with 400GB of room -- to the previous 200GB of HDD mag storage. Afterwards, changed some of the agents to point to the new Storage Policy (for the SAN)...

DNS Issues? Or am I missing something?

Paul, Sorry for the delayed reply. I tried the DNS flush, with no appreciable effect. Also, no errors in Event Log after flushing and registering DNS on the workstation. I forgot to check the DNS Client Svc, but will do so. THANKS!

DNS Issues? Or am I missing something?

I hate to bring this here, but I don't know where else to go. We are experiencing what we believe to be DNS issues in our network. Here is one example of how this problem manifests itself: On a user XP Pro workstation, an intranet web-based app that requires AD authentication won't start after a...

Win98 Won't connect to Win2000 server machine (nor to the domain)

I agree with Nzarth. Sounds like your DC is running in Native Mode. Check the settings and let us know... CharlieJ

Event ID 5722 - Can't get them to go away

Spool, THANKS for the assistance, but the problem is with client to server authentication, not server to server authentication. If you have any other ideas, please let me know. CharlieJ

Closing TCP/UDP Ports on Server & Clients?

We recently did some Nessus testing on our domain. We found that some unused TCP & UDP ports were open -- nothing major. I have two questions: 1) Do we NEED to close these ports (ie TCP 137/138, UDP 445, etc) as Nessus results suggested? 2) If so, I would like to close those ports on both our...

Event ID 5722 - Can't get them to go away

[pc3] Event ID 5722 The session setup from the computer [name] failed to authenticate. The name of the account referenced in the security database is [name$]. The following error occurred: Access is denied. [ponder] Every couple of weeks I battle Event ID 5722 on several PCs on our PDC. The...

    Session setup

I have this same problem on our PDC. The od thing is that the error pops up for various PCs at differing times. When I fix the 5-10 that are there today, the problem seems to be solved for a week or so. Then, another 5-10 start giving offer Event ID 5722 errors. I fix those and all is well for a...

Weird Things on Network PCs - Hard disk FULL / Slow Performance / MORE

(Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give all of the info I have available.) Our problems started Sunday morning. Thus far we can find no common thread. We have discovered 11 PCs that are "infected" with something. I put "infected" in quotes because we're not sure if we're dealing with...
