The drive made noises for nearly an hour but finallt stopped at the A prompt. I messed up in configuring the HD when trying to get it functioning normally. It seems it was configured LBA originally and I set it up 'Normal' So scandisk redid the files twice and I was unable to recover the...
Thanks Matt . I did as you said from the dos prompt. Can't get windows open yet. Now I have a flashing curser and the computer sounds like a very old electromechanical clock. Is it supposed to return to a: when complete? Is it supposed to take a while? It's been doing this for nearly an hour...
I finally have the hardware configured as it should be but after running scandisk it says I need to delete FILEnnnn.chk in the root directory. Can anyone tell me how this is done? This a homebuilt computer with an epox ep-3vba3 mobo and 866 proc with a WD Caviar 36400 hd.
I recieved this...
You've a connundrum there alright. You don't say which MOBO you have but it seems to me if it will boot even if it takes forever and several trys it may still be functional. Personally I would first try a different power supply.XP probably prevents starting with minimal components as it is tied...
I've had the same problem. Yahoo's new messenger doesn't recognise a lot of webcams it used to. You can try troubleshooting through the yahoo messenger or contacting yahoo for their compatibility list. Best luck.

In Xp hit cntrl alt delete just once the task manager should popup and show what operation is not responding. you can then tell it to end task. This is probably an issue of software conflict.

Has the E drive been just recently installed? If so you may have the ribbon connecter hooked on backwards. Some have a hole blocked in them to prevent this and others have a lump on one side to fit in an open slot to align them. Some have niether. If yours doesn't turn the cable over and plug it...
I have the LG 4480b installed on Xp and working.Check to see iff the ide channel it's hooked to is looking for cdrom in your bios.primary slave or secondary master /slave. It will work in auto detect but will find it as new hardware every other boot up.

I'm assuming that this a new drive you've just installed. Be sure it is jumpered correctly. The bios is set to look for cdrom on the IDE channel you have it on,and that the IDE connectors are tight at the MB and CD. Many cannot be turned wrong but some can be sure they are not connected one way...
Did you check to see if your IDE cables are tight at both ends. Check also in the bios if you have selected cdrom on the drive you are using for the cdrw. Once it is found in the bios it should appear in the operating system. Just as a side note if you are using auto detect you may have your...
It is possible that another program is using some of the same resources required by the cdrw. Have you tried going back and closing all other programs? I had similar difficulties with some antivirus programs. Nortons was one although they said it must be some thing else. You could try ctrl alt...
