Hi,

This is an issue I have never solved, with Win XP, it will happen that the CD drive will stop answering the eject command, even by pushing the open tray button, the drive seems like freezing. I wondered if there was a particular process that was stucked but at first view I cannopt seem to see anything obvious there. I really like to know if there is a quicker way than to rebooting the system to unjam this ....

Cheers

In Xp hit cntrl alt delete just once the task manager should popup and show what operation is not responding. you can then tell it to end task. This is probably an issue of software conflict.

Got it - ok, it has not occured to me since as yet, but I will try that when it does happen.

Cheers!

Also, this could be a conflict between different burner software programs and the built in software in XP. Look here on how to disable the XP software:
Very good site for XP info.

Hi,
Ok, good point - thanks for the site, your right, this is a good site to bookmark.

Cheers!

This used to be an issue with DirectCD. You could only eject using DirectCD. It had to write to the disk before it would allow an eject.

i guess I assumed you were talking about a CD burner since burning siftware was discussed. I see in your original post that you are talking about a CD-ROM, so my comment is moot.

Hi, well, right originally I meant the CDROM, but it really applied to both. I beleive that some internal crash would happen then this situation would occur. Actually to be honest, it has been a while since I posted that situation, it has not occured to me since. I do agree about the conflict of soft, now I am phasing over to Red Hat and I have not encounted that problem.

Cheers!
