Outlook 2003 on XP Won't Connect to Exchange 5.5

THANKS alexwood, THANK!!!! The only weird thing was that on my Win2k box, the registry key they mention, HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware\Microsoft\office\11.0\RPC Does not exist. So, I created it. Then I added the specified value! I spent literally hours combing through MS looking for the...

    Restoring PUB.EDB

Some time over the Thanksgiving holidays, my 10mb PUB.EDB file was deleted and not discovered until Monday. Evidently Exchange recreated a PUB file when it noticed the original one missing. I have a backup of the PUB.EDB file. Can I simply just stop Exchange services, copy the original 10mb...

Have a wrong time on e-mails going out

Yes, it could be the time of day is right -- but the TIME ZONE on that person's computer is incorrectly set. My guess is that you are on Eastern Time and that person has their time zone set to the Windows Default time of Pacific Time. Thanks again, Mr. Gates! :-)

Outlook 2003 on XP Won't Connect to Exchange 5.5

I am running into problems trying to rollout Outlook 2003 in an organization with Exchange 5.5. The problems only happen on computers with Windows XP. Windows 2000 clients work fine. Also, the Windows XP computers run Outlook 2002 fine. Here's the scenario: 1. New computer with XP Pro...

Setup mailboxes for non company employees

You don't have to do it that way. There is a much easier and secure way to to it. Unfortunately, I am not at the office right now. If I were at the office, I could visit the server and give you step-by-step instructions. But I'll try to point you in the right direction off the top of my head...

    OWA - IIS 4 on Exchange 5.5 SP3 / NT4 SP5

    >>> First: message from IIS 4 option Pack (this version was not tested with sp5 and up ?!?) <<< That particular part of your question reflects a NORMAL characteristic of the Option Pack. I can't address the BackupExec Error message. Except that if I am not mistaken, the NT 4 Windows...

How Do You Send to an IP Address in Addition to Domain Name?

Mailservers are technically required RFC1123 5.2.17 to accept mail to domain literals for any of its IP addresses. Yet, MS Exchange 5.5 does not allow this without further configuration. Not accepting mail via domain literal format (user@[0.0.0.0]). can make it more difficult to test...

    what service is webmail using?

It is too detailed for me to describe, but many times the service will appear to be running in Services, but there is a component (such as Active Server Pages) that is having problems. Before you start messing around and possibly making things worse, I suggest you check the archives here on...

which services to stop for a safe shutdown?

I don't think you can do that with NT 4 unless you have a UPS that has a serial port connection and OEM software. When the primary power goes off, the UPS signals the software to run commands such as net stop "Microsoft Exchange System Attendant"

How do I set up Exchange to accept email to my email server's IP address? Example: username@63.54.177.4 63.54.177.4 = mydomain.com

security, how can I disable network neighborhood from user changes?

If you have only a few computers to deal with, you can also do this by installing TWEAKUI "powertoy" utility from Microsoft. It is not an especially powerful way to control access, but it might discourage casual, non-hacker type users from browsing the network.

    Dell Latitude Boot-up password

Dismantling a notebook is a risky affair even for seasoned "pros." Notbooks are a lot more suseptible to static discharge as well as fumbling screwdrivers, etc. And because they are so compact in design, they don't always go back together as easily as they come apart. Therefore, if I...

    Possible Intrusion Scan

Incidentally, if you don't already know, that IP is from Korea. http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois.ch?ip=61.248.35.135&server=whois.krnic.net&cache=off You do have the Microsoft URLSCAN lockdown tool installed and configured, right? And you have run the MS Baseline Security Analyzer to check...

    Intrusion attempt ?

This is not an answer to your specific question. However, if you haven't already done so, consider installing and running the "Baseline Security Analyzer" and checking that server. Even if you are "fully patched," you might identify some other more subtle security issues...

    i am exchange server impaired

If you use the above batch file, consider adding "/y" after each NET STOP command. This will automate the process to reduce likelihood of "are you sure?" messages when command line NET STOP is used. example: net stop msexchangeMTA /y net stop msexchangeIS /y net stop...
