Trying to redirect a users folder to another internal drive???

Before moving things I'd try running Disk Cleanup as administrator (right-click and run as admin). You'd be amazed at the huge amount of space it can recover. Nelviticus

    Shared folder and Virtualization

Yes you need a network connection. Here are some instructions from a Stack Overflow question: Open Hyper-V Manager Create a new internal virtual switch (e.g. "Internal Network Connection") Go to your Virtual Machine and create a new Network Adapter -> choose "Internal Network Connection" as...

    Shared folder and Virtualization

    Shared folder and Virtualization

Open Explorer in the guest and type \\HOSTNAME\SHARENAME in the address bar (replace HOSTNAME and SHARENAME with the actual names). Nelviticus

PC is unusually SLOW, even w/out Windows!!!

Can't see how a faulty PSU would make things run slowly, more likely things wouldn't run at all. I'd strip the machine down to the minimum components for it to power on - just the PSU, motherboard and CPU - then see whether it's still slow getting into the BIOS. If it is, the fault lies with a...

Windows Remote Desktop (App) - Any Way to Backup the Settings?

I only have access to Windows 10 Pro but that has the non-app version of the Remote Desktop Client preinstalled. If you open that and click the 'show options' button it'll reveal a bunch of extra settings plus 'save', 'save as' and 'open' buttons. You can save the whole config for a connection...

    Recording Remote Desktop Sessions

If you're talking about screen recording (i.e. some kind of video of your Remote Desktop or Teamviewer activity) then I very much doubt that any company would do this except in very specific circumstances, such as if they suspected that something illegal was going on. The cost of doing this...

Can a recent Win 7 update "break" virtualization ability?

I've googled around but can't find anything that even vaguely implies Microsoft have removed support from Windows 7 for any CPU that was previously supported. There are plenty of articles saying that Windows 7 drivers won't be written for new CPUs, but nothing about removing existing drivers...

Can a recent Win 7 update "break" virtualization ability?

Hyper-V has probably become enabled somehow. This often happens to me when I update Visual Studio. I'm not on a Windows 10 machine at the moment but it's somewhere under 'turn Windows features on or off'. Disable/uninstall Hyper-V, re-boot and you should find that VirtualBox works again...

Panning a virtual desktop in 10?

Apparently from Vista onwards Windows itself no longer supports oversize desktops and panning. However, it's been a long time since I've seen a device with a lower vertical resolution than 768 pixels (which is still painfully low in my opinion) so it may well be that when you come to buy a new...

    Out of Memory

Nobody said anything about the images being 8GB in size on disk - the 8GB referred to is the amount of memory the machine has. In any case, images take up far less space on disk than they do in memory when you display/edit them. A 3.4MB JPEG file I have here takes 23.7MB of RAM to display...

    Replacement power supply options

Yeah, that page is quite bizarre as you can see the spare parts but there are no prices or any mechanism for ordering them (at least, not when viewed from the UK). I ended up going with the last link in my original post and it's working fine. Nelviticus

    Replacement power supply options

There are four 3TB drives installed and the device has two fans. Looks like I should go for the 12V/10A one then, which is great because it's a UK vendor so will arrive next day and cost a fraction of the price of shipping one from the US. My soldering skills are non-existent and I don't have a...

    Replacement power supply options

The power supply for my NAS (a Synology DS411j) has died and I'm looking to buy a replacement, but I can't figure out whether the ones offered by third-party vendors that are listed as 'compatible' are actually compatible. My dead power supply is marked as providing a DC output of 12V and 8.33A...

How to change a Library to a folder.

That isn't quite right: those are the default locations for the libraries, but other folders can be added too. If you navigate to one of your libraries then at the top left of the Explorer window under where it says (e.g.) 'Pictures library' will be the text 'Includes: 2 locations' (it may be...

Sleep mode not working if logged in

I had a similar problem when I had a Logitech wireless mouse attached. The driver installs both a mouse device and a keyboard device; I had to turn off 'allow device to wake computer' for both of these. The following article is about Windows 7 and mentions powercfg, which I don't think works in...

High level computer purchase advice for likely 60-65 machines

Consider going with laptops; the price difference between them and desktops is much smaller nowadays.
