Hello colleagues!

I created a virtual machine (running Windows XP) using the Hyper-V manager in Windows 10.

I use the Windows XP in the virtual machine in order to run old software that doesn't run on Windows 10. The problem is that this old software generates JPG files that I want to use inside programs in Windows 10. How can I send these files to a shared folder in the Host computer (Windows 10) from the virtual machine?

Thank you,
SitesMasstec

You should be able to do that just like you would any shared folder. Share a folder, see it from both machines, save the jpg files there.

Just my $.02

Hi Greg!

Yes, I created a shared folder in the Host computer (with Windows 10), but I do not know how to save files in it (the shared folder is not seen in the virtual machine).

Thank you,

Open Explorer in the guest and type \\HOSTNAME\SHARENAME in the address bar (replace HOSTNAME and SHARENAME with the actual names).

Hello colleagues!

I am running Windows XP SP2 on the Virtual Machine, and it does not have Networking and Sharing Center!

So when I open in Explorer and type in the address space (OR Start button and type) \\DESKTOP-V2HF5HA\C\MySharedFolder it says the folder cannot be found!

Thank you,

Try \\DESKTOP-V2HF5HA\MySharedFolder rather than \\DESKTOP-V2HF5HA\C\MySharedFolder

Tried this and not worked.

Must a network connection have to be created on Virtual Machine?

I tried but wasn't able to create a Local Network connection in the Virtual Machine...

Thank you,

Yes you need a network connection. Here are some instructions from a Stack Overflow question:
[ul]
[li]Open Hyper-V Manager[/li]
[li]Create a new internal virtual switch (e.g. "Internal Network Connection")[/li]
[li]Go to your Virtual Machine and create a new Network Adapter -> choose "Internal Network Connection" as virtual switch[/li]
[li]Start the VM[/li]
[li]Assign both your host as well as guest an IP address as well as a Subnet mask (IP4, e.g. 192.168.1.1 (host) / 192.168.1.2 (guest) and 255.255.255.0)[/li]
[li]Open cmd both on host and guest and check via "ping" if host and guest can reach each other (if this does not work disable/enable the network adapter via the network settings in the control panel, restart...)[/li]
[li]If successfull create a folder in the VM (e.g. "VMShare"), right-click on it -> Properties -> Sharing -> Advanced Sharing -> checkmark "Share this folder" -> Permissions -> Allow "Full Control" -> Apply[/li]
[li]Now you should be able to reach the folder via the host -> to do so: open Windows Explorer -> enter the path to the guest (\192.168.1.xx...) in the address line -> enter the credentials of the guest (Choose "Other User" - it can be necessary to change the domain therefore enter ".\"[username] and [password])[/li]
[/ul]
