The store.exe is notorious for memory leakage. You can overnight setup a start and stop of the IMS which usually cures the error. also antivirus email scanning software has been known to cause this fault. Check with your AV supplier to see if any patches are available for this error.

Sometimes when we logon via our VPN client using windows 98 the system does not call up the Logon Box so the users can not logon to the system. Most of the time it works ok it just somnetimes seems to forget to call up the network logon box. Any ideas?
you will need to get the Norton regisrty fix from their web site to completly remove the program then reinstall. The uninstall option leaves things behind in the registry that if corrupted will not allow new installations to work correctly. Contact Symantec tech support they are very good and...
to create space and increase performance move your swap file to drive d leaving a 2Mb swap file on drive c. Ensure that the max and min settings are the same on drive d. They should be 1.5 * memory.

typing winmsd will give you your logon server (network tab)
You could use the LMHOST file to pre cache the logon servers but this is not recommended. I cannot think of a valid reason why you would need to control the logons in this way.

Be aware that if you have moved the entire paging file to the D drive you have introduced another problem wherby if the system crashes you can no longer write the system debug information. It is safer to have a very small swap file left on drive C and the rest on another drive. this also...
DHCP cannot give out the same address to two different systems. You must have a static or reserved lease on one of them.
Check the reservations section in the scope to ensure that addresses in there are not included in the scope.
I would suggest using NTFS permissions, leaving share at full control. You can set the NTFS permissions using the CACLS command. You will be able to script this to speed things up.

I seem to remember that there is a combination but I cannot remember it. Have you tried remotly editing the following keys
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices...
can you ping the BDC by name and IP. Remember that it can take up to 45 mins for the Master Browser (PDC) to send the browse list to the 98 clients. THis does not stop you using the BDC's.

Your friend is correct. the workstation will keep its current IP address until it does a broadcast to the DHCP server for a renewal. If the new server is runninng then the lease will be renewed. The workstaion will request the same IP address but there is of course a chance that the DHCP server...
the 1st renewal is at 50% the last is at 87% if no DHCP server is available then the lease will be lost and the address lost. You will need to bring a DHCP server on line or go static

It is mem+11 Mb as a min but 1.5 mem is the max size and gives best performance. Also 2Mb is the correct size on the C drive teh rest palce on the d drive and all should be OK.
The virtual memory error is ficed by rebooting. remember you can always look at the task manger or even better the...
in order to keep the debug option on a system crash youi will need to keep a small paging file on the C drive. The page file should be set to 1.5 times memory on the d drive. Moving the paging file is a recommended thing as it will speed up the system a bit. Also ensure you set min and max to...
We are getting this intermittant error message when our Win98 systems try to logon to our Windows NT4.0 domain. The systems have logged on and all network operations work OK. It is just annoying to get the error message. As stated it is very intermittant. We have stopped master browser on the...
