Don't want to sound negative, but I have a feeling it can't be done during an unattended install. We did a load of work about a year ago on a RIS system (Remote install services, uses pretty much the same process) and couldn't get it to do background or screen saver. Ended up deploying via Group...
Novell servers will only get [NTP] time from a proper NTP server, which NT servers aren't.
I use the internet quite happily as a time source for a 70+ site network without any problems at all. The trick is to use a variety of NTP servers, and even if your own internet connection goes, the time...
Have you got the CD mounted properly in the server? Issue the VOLUMES command (at the console)and make sure the NW5 CD is listed. If not, you may have to issue LOAD CDROM to get it to mount.
Try that, come back if it's still not playing ball.

RCONJ can be both slow and flakey - I prefer to use a tool called RCONIP, which is very much the "old-fashioned" RCONSOLE look-and-feel but works over IP.
Check it out on the Novell tools site:-

You should be able to use DLU from within ZEN, it's just a case of working out the appropriate settings for your particular requirements. I think what you need is the following combination in the DLU properties (these are actually from Zen2, but Zen 3/4 should have the same or similar check...
Believe it or not, some machines these days are TOO fast - look like this is the case here.
OUt of interest, run NWADMN32 on this machine and see if you get an error in JRE.EXE......if you do, your machine is too fast for poor old NetWare 5.1
(I can swap you for an old 486 if you like...) :-D...
Are these laptop users by any chance? I have a real intermittent problem on my own machine, whereby it won't always login to NetWare unless the network cable is plugged in at startup time.
HOw many servers do you have? Are there any WAN links involved?

>>Quick question...the server has 2 HDs...one for sys and the other for apps and files, not NSS volumes. f I disconnect the file HD, reinstall NW on the sys HD...I'll be able to use the file volume if I reconnect it to the new system?
Yep, shouldn't be a problem. Dewpending how intelligent...
The client 4.83 is perfectly good for use in a mixed NT/Novell eenvironment, so there is either something wrong with your install/configuration or there is something that you are misunderstanding.
A question:
You say you have upgraded to 4.83 - from what?
In order to use the Novell profile...
peptone :- sorry, been busy this morning with a server down problem, haven't managed to look into your problem further. I'll drop in on Monday - if you've not got a result by then, I'll sort it for you.

Windows will automatically create the previous configurations - don't mess around with them or you will cause yourself more trouble than it's worth.
Personally, I don't trust them anyway. If I ever get to the state where I can only boot by recovering from "last known good profile"...

OK, if the users receive a new "clean" laptop and they have no [dial-up or otherwise] access to the domain, then you're going to have be extremely clever to get their profile onto the laptop anyway :-)
So why not make the "register" user profile good enough to get them...
Here's a quick description of MUI vs Local Language versions.
The MUI can only be added to English builds of W2K. As stated above, it provides a Multilingual User Interface (including MOST dialogue boxes, icon titles and help files) but doesn't change the registry and other really low-level...
CliveM - if you haven't already been there, you need to be looking at NSLOOKUP (or one of the shareware/freeware tools such as Sam Spade), th sshould help you with your DNS issue.
However, if you have a DHCP issue as well, I suggest you try to resolve that first - one may well fix the other...
Put it down to [bad] experience!
Maybe you should do a clean ssVBAdev install on one machine to make sure it's not a stupid system problem, then take your machine and one other back to the dealer and ask "What's the difference?"
(Ans: Mine works, your's doesn't <VBG>)
Oh well...
mapleleaf: - sweet work, but I think the initial problem is how to set up in the first place...
If understand the question properly, the issue is how to get a remote user's account onto a "clean" laptop if there is no DC available.
While this may not be a solution, may trigger some...
Hiya, RosieBsDad again.
If you have other machines with the same symptoms, this smacks of the build being from an image which has the inherent problem...so a re-install [from dealer's source CD if provided] will only put the problem straight back on!
I'd be going back to the dealer now if I...
Told you it was a pain in the butt :-)
Are you in a desparate hurry to get it fixed? I'll dig out the workaround for you (if nobody else comes up with it for you in the meantime), but it won't be until around Friday lunchtime BST.

Several options, but CHECK THE LICENSING!
1. If you have Terminal Server installed [on a server, as discussed previously] there is a TS Client folder created by default (can't remember the exact location, but trust me, it exists). Run the Setup from there.
2. If you have XP, the Remote Desktop...
