Just migrated to Win2k server.
Does Win2k server have anything like the
NOVELL 'SALVAGE' command or a directory
where it keeps recently deleted or overwritten files.

altaanc,

Anything a "user" deletes on a network drive is "gone"

You will need to invest in a GOOD backup program and TEST it.

You should also invest in a good file recovery program such as this:-

Just one of the "joys" of converting !!

The key is to always have a backup. MS has always bugged me that they do not have any functionality like this. It's such a pain in the ars to go to tape each time a user dumps something "by accident" we also have Netware but not for file services. Thinking about moving it though....... real soon......

Having worked with both for longer than I care to remember. I know which one I prefer (it doesn't start with M).

There are days when we have to "devote" someone just to restore files. Seems to depend on the "phase of the moon"

End Rant ....

Mapleleaf has the solution - Red is the colour of a proper Network operating system.....[shriner]

Microsoft has the name. Mention Novell and most big bosses will give you a blank stare. Mention Microsoft and it's automatically okay with them to spend the company's money because it's Microsoft.

Something I am thinking of purchasing is "Undelete For Windows" by Executive Software.

It turns your server recycling bin into a real recycling bin so when a network file is deleted it goes there. It seems really flexible as far as when items would be deleted from the recycling bin.

Has anyone else used anything similar??
