Greg,
You're correct. The engineer hadn't installed our software build (including XP updates and Virus Defs) prior to connecting to the internet.
He was trying to cover it up so he didn't get in trouble. He had managed to contract both Sasser and Gaobot.
Thanks for your help anyhow guys...
Hello All,
A customer has just called in with a regular "Lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code-1073741819" message.
Apparently this is happening on a brand new HP Pavilion PC (500 Series).
It was installed by an engineer rather than the customer and was exhibiting the message...
Hello,
Could anybody please advise what the average failure rate of TFT monitors is?
We are DOAing a number of the HP f1703 TFT's due to faulty pixels.
All the monitors being replaced fall outside of HPs white paper on defect standards.
Any information on average % failure rate of TFT...

Hi,
I have a brand new Gigabyte GA-8ST800 Mainboard.
When I boot the machine up sometimes I get a display and sometimes I do not (2/3 of the time I don't get a display). I have tried 2x graphics cards (NVIDIA Sparkle and Radeon 9600) and they both do exactly the same thing.

Great idea,
I'll pull one of our machines apart tomorrow to have a look how they're configured and then call the customer
I'll post some feedback tomorrow

Thanks for the ideas guys,
I will get the customer to download some free burning software to see if 'Record Now' is causing the problem and have a closer look at his original cds as well.

Jeff
I have a customer who received a HP Pavilion 763.uk in December and has never been able to record to cd/dvd. We have done a plethora of troubleshooting. Please see fault finding as follows:
· Cds will not burn correctly, they keep stopping as soon as 'record now' gets to the 'writing' part...
I have a customer who has a new HP desktop T190.uk, he is using a 'samsung cd-r/rw sw-248f' to record with and using the Veritas 'Record Now' software to burn with.

I played an original cd from his other drive...
Thanks for the posts,
This customer has a laptop with no hardware changes from the original package. In the end the customer couldn't afford the time for us to look into this and reluctantly agreed to a destructive recovery. However I'd still be interested in knowing if anyone knows a solution...
I have an XP machine that gets a stop error when booting up (even in safe mode), unfortunately I had not turned off the brilliant feature that XP has of rebooting on system failure. So I have a continually rebooting machine and don’t have time to read the stop error. Is there any way of turning...

the customer is not that computer literate so I want someone...

how they look after their gear is important but 3-5% is a pretty safe guess, especially because it isn't a whole machine we're talking about, just a couple of components
