Lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code-1073741819

Hello All,

A customer has just called in with a regular "Lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code-1073741819" message.

Apparently this is happening on a brand new HP Pavilion PC (500 Series).

It was installed by an engineer rather than the customer and was exhibiting the message prior to being connected to the Internet for the 1st time.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks for that,

the PC is actually running XP rather than 2000 but I will still make sure they have all their Windows Updates current

Are you sure there is no chance they have been online, even for a few seconds. As this error message is exacly the same as the sasser worm. A MS update and checker can be found at

You're correct. The engineer hadn't installed our software build (including XP updates and Virus Defs) prior to connecting to the internet.

He was trying to cover it up so he didn't get in trouble. He had managed to contract both Sasser and Gaobot.
