If all u want is redundancy, then all u need is 2 HDDs and put them onto a RAID 1 config =) + a tape backup drive and u r set.

Check within your motherboard BIOS settings for support for usb keyboard and mouse. If they are disabled, try to enable then to see that helps.

Try the HDD on another PC. That way at least you know it is still alive or not. If it is ghost it onto another HDD and try it on your Wookie.
