Why is it in a different workgroup ?, and why dont you use the unix as a pdc ?
it would be a lot more efficient either way, the latter being the best solution.
UkWizard.
When you say you have the problem on two identical machines ?, do you mean you have two seperate servers running independantly to each other and they both experience the same problem ?
Also are the machines the exact make and model ?
Might be a possible incompatability issue between these...
I am more confused now, whats "sing ls" mean ?
You do know that the fsck must be run on a filesystem that is NOT mounted, dont you ?
Reboot into single user mode, and run a full fsck on the /dev/u filesystem. If it scans okay, mount it, then see if you can see any files.
If you cant...
This error does not make sense, why is the cd command trying to write to the file /cd/wholock ?
What is /cd/wholock ? have you had a look at this file ?
Strange ?

You may be able to use a mandrake cd, but the instructions would be very different. It all depends on whether the mandrake can support the sco Filesystem type.
I'm afraid i do not know mandrake, so could not advise on this. If it does support this, then you could build a machine up with...
try adding the windows xp machine name and ip address in the samba servers hosts file.
So that it can resolve the winxp's name quickly, as it may be doing a reverse lookup of it ?
If its a Pro machine, you may have to disable the "Master browser" option to speed it up, if the above...
Sounds like a dodgy digi card to me, is it under warranty ?
If so get it replaced, otherwise it could be a device causing it. Eg, when you print to a printer on a particular port ?

The error is reporting that the user that you tryed to login as was not a valid user, thats it, plain and simple.
( Unless you have a freaky weird problem )
If the third party telnet program logs in for you, then its probably got the wrong username in it.
Eliminate it quickly by using the...
I presume this is file is copied to the hosts, one at a time, and not simultaneously.
If its run simultaneously, you may choke the network connections, especially if its remote sites !!.
Just a thought,

Boot from cdrom and/or floppy install disk ( the floppy image is on the CD ).
During the install press F8, a list of options is shown.
Select Use the <TAB> and <Arrow> keys to highlight the shell command, press <Enter>.
If you break out of the install BEFORE the CDROM initialization, then...
Not sure what you are trying to achieve here ?
I presume this is not the boot filesystem, but a data only filesystem ?
Does it mount ? , if you cannot mount it until you fsck it, and thus you ahve the problem, you have no alternative but to let fsck attempt the repairs. as without it, it cannot...
You would have to goto the dell website and check hardware compatability there.
they should be able to answer it.
The caldera one is not updated often, because they leave it upto the manufacturers to check there models. otherwise there compatability list would run into millions of makes and...
Netscape is supplied already on the sco cd ( versions 5 that is )
So if you have the gui installed, but not netscape, then run the 'custom' command and install from cd.
Highlight/tag the netscape and install it.
Voila, done.
Enjoy,

The UkWizard.
SCOedit is just a gui for the edit command, therefore , run the X windows gui ( startx command ) and its withing there.
Otherwise the 'edit' command should be it.

What proxy server are you running ?
You would have to configure the NT box as your default gateway, and then setup a NAT to the outside world.
If you have configured the incoming telnet to the sco box, then it is similar, except obviously the other way round.
The default route instructions...
This is a known fault on 5.0.4, basically it tries to scan the bus for more devices.
Disable the scan option on the bootstring, see the sco technical article on this (# 105826) for more info...
There are two places that i can think of;
check your local dns config ( in the /etc/resolv.conf )
I have seen on my machine where it gets the domain from here ( under the domain xxx.com setting )
Otherwise, run the 'scoadmin sendmail' command to configure the sendmail. there is a domain entry...
