Atapi CD-ROM dies during installation

Installing SCO 5.04 on an older Dell for some practice. Everything fine until the point where installation is "Making the division & filesystems on disk 0, patition 1" Either it loads about 600 kb from the cd and then quits or it doesn't access the cd at all. CD-ROM works fine until this point in the installation. I have read some release notes on atapi CD-ROMs - one problem occurs if there is also a SCSI device- There is no SCSI device on this computer.

This is a known fault on 5.0.4, basically it tries to scan the bus for more devices.

Disable the scan option on the bootstring, see the sco technical article on this (# 105826) for more info.
