how does outlook know where to look for the users home exchange server - it obviously doesnt use DNS or not on its own what else does it use? so what else do we...
it would appear that exchange must have some services that need to be moved when you want to remove and decommission what was the first installed server?
Somthing similar to the FSMO roles? Is this true and what are they and how is this done as not been able to find anything to confirm this.
in answer to the above
The site there moving to is the main "HQ" which already has a number of servers. We found to problems - the version of mvexsvrv is different from the previous ones we used and we pointed the server to a newer server at HQ and not the first original one
So how do we...
ok had some trouble with a couple of sites

Backup !!!!! important
Isolate server by removing site connectors
Wait for site to vanish - replication complete

we have 1600 users and will be joining a corporate network as a child of their domain, whats the easiest was to migrate from NT4 and old servers?
Do we build new bdc 2003 server, then promote to pdc, then run dcpromo again to join the new active directory as child, will this automatically...
We have 3 media servers, the 1st is also the master media server.
To import tapes from a remote media server is the syntax
bpimport -create_db_info -id (media barcode) -server (remote media server name)
Initiation process is successful and it appears in the monitor as active but just sits...
oops u should have used a SAN and shared the array much easier and then ghost the nodes so it can be restored fast
I have learned to ghost all boxes and use backup tapes only for archiving cos its too damn slow.
I centrally store all data on SANS, use volume shadow copy and xcopy to another...
lol on a server rebuild all tapes are frozen and even Veritas struggled to suggest a way of importing cataloging he tapes
They recommended a complete erase !!! MAD
All I wanted is the catalogues to restore the settings.
all servers are working, the media server thats the pain is the master server also. 2 tapes for cataloguing, mmmmmm I didn't set it up so I aint got a clue, if this was the case how do I see whats on a tape?
so how do I do that? if its on a tape how do I catalogue a tape to find out whats on it and where they are.
Cheers
ps nope we hadn't ghosted it - have done 44 other servers just not that one

Management CD docs are somewhat confusing but read them carefully chapter by chapter and you will finally have a working system.
The servers to be monitored need SNMP openssh and PSP and you'll be almost there all you need is the config details for SNMP
Server is easy follow the manual step...
ADVICE
Read the bleeding manual first.
Install the database, Openssh, PSP SNMP setup and then the Insight Manager and start your discovery on the management box first.
Once it can talk and see itself it makes a role out easy.
Why do people buy compaq now HP and not use Insight Manager...
FURTHER NOTE
Check your exchange rights and make sure the user is authorised in exchange admin, serevr - permissions. There is usually a specific accounts setup for exchange arcserve like exchangeservice etc - thats the usual way anyway.
ALso in programs there should be the arcserve exchange...
