had to rebuild master from scratch and now one of the media servers complains

unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available(96)

On rebuild everything was in default netbackup media pool, created and moved media into their respective pool but not playing ball. One server great 2 like this????? they are ssl1016 robots

Is there anyway to run catalogue to update database on all tapes or are we screwed?

Did you recover the catalogue when the master was rebuilt?

where and how would one do this?

So far I have 2 robots working, for some reason one decided that it didnt like its tapes in its own pool but in the netbackup default one?

The one not working now thinks its tapes are DLT and not DLT2 ones so I think thats why its not working although still complains that spare media is not available. The robot says DLT2 but media type says DLT? Strange things happening with these robots!

Box is almost finished - 5 hours later, just some perl scipts missing from the dba lads - they werent backed up either and will take hours to do - there not happy either tut tut.

as lenski mentioned what about your catalog. then there's all your settings for drives, clean tapes, etc etc etc. You didn't keep a log of all the settings, how everything was setup ??. Cus it sounds like all your doing is rebuiling the server but don't know how any of the important stuff is/was setup

The recovery of the catalog was critical to the rebuild of the server. All your problems have come from the fact that the system thinks that there was no history and only default settings. You have to recover the catalog otherwise you are looking at a whole heap of pain.

so how do I do that? if its on a tape how do I catalogue a tape to find out whats on it and where they are.

Cheers

ps nope we hadn't ghosted it - have done 44 other servers just not that one

You should have 2 tapes setup in your previous config that you set aside for Catalog backups only. If this has not been done, you will also need to reinstall your Media Server

all servers are working, the media server thats the pain is the master server also. 2 tapes for cataloguing, mmmmmm I didn't set it up so I aint got a clue, if this was the case how do I see whats on a tape?

UNIX master
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpsyncinfo -U
WINDOWS DOS cmd window on master
$INSTALL_DIR/VERITAS/NetBackup/bin/admincmd/bpschedinfo -U
