the only fix will be to format the hard drive. what you may also be able to do is install windows 2000 onto another hard drive, and use the "broken" one as a slave, and you may be able to recover some of the files from it. GOOD LUCK
To reformat a drive (simply wipe it "clean") I'd suggest using a windows 98 boot disk (you have cdrom support for when your ready to install whatever).
Boot the computer with the windows 98 boot disk (put in the floppy, turn computer on) choose "start computer with cdrom...
sometimes the xircom's get stuck in "modem" mode. And on occasion will work fine on all other computers. Try removing the wireless card, and also unistalling any software that came with it (most likely a program to checkthe signal strenght, and set it up with the base station) then...
The problem they are having is that it ONLY will boot with a bootable cd drive, and not from the hard drive. It possibly gives them an error saying "no operating system" or something along those lines. I could be wrong, and it could be a silly mistake with leaving the cd in. But i...
you should be able to override it if you put it on the 2000 machine. i dont have a pc running with 95 on it, but make sure you have file and print sharing on the computer enabled (you can do so in the network control panel). i'd just move it to the 2000 machine anyway, it'd be safer
it sounds to me like you do not have either an ACTIVE partition. (meaning one to boot from)
To do this you need to boot into MS DOS Mode (preferably with a floppy) and do the following
at the c: prompt, type in fdisk
press Y for lba support
choose number 2, set active partition
Select the...
Your problem is quite simply. Feed back.
Not your traditional feedback you get at concerts however, with the squeels and squaks. What is happening is when you speak over the internet, there is a delay (depending on internet connection). This latency causes you to hear yourself back. You say...
A good computer name is hard to find. Compaq, even though a big name in personal computers, make terrible products(ok, there business line is ok, the presarios are crud).
I happened to own 3 e-machines (ranging in age, from when the first came out around 4 years ago, till one i got 3 months...
I really need the error message that you are getting when trying to send email. could you email that to me? (joke)
Without that error message to help narrow it down, the possibilities are endless on what the problem is. It could simply be that you left out a letter when typing in the mail...
To make a crossover cable, assuming you are using 100base t, do the following pin layout. if you donot wish to make your own, you can simply buy one at any computer store.
*note: I cannot for the life of me remember the EXACT color order, but if you do it this way, it will work.
Connector one...
unfortunatly this is not your monitor, but a problem with your video card. You most likely either A: dont have drivers installed for the network card, or B: need to reinstall the drivers for the network card.
To check this (on windows 95/98) click one time with the right mouse button on MY...
reguardless, they need to be setup this way, so that your computer you want to use the internet on knows were to go, and the cable modem needs to be on the first nic listed in winipcfg. I would also suggest that you dont even have tcp/ip installed for your adapter hooked to the other computer...
you need to be on the computer that the actual shared file/folder is on, you cannot do this remotely. that is why you are getting the "make available offline" options. you need to be were the file is physically kept. no short cuts, nothing. just the file.
It sounds as if you have a completely misconfigured bios. Go into bios, make sure your hardrive/ cdrom drive and floppy drives are all setup in there properly.
Make sure that both computers are on the same work group. also, how do you have the network setup? is it peer to peer (hooked directly to each other) or with a hub? Also check your TCP/IP settings, and make sure they both have the same default gateway, and subnet mask.
quake,
This is going to sound wierd, and be a bit hard to explain in text, but whenever you are sharing internet this way, there are a few "quirks". I am assuming everything is win95/98.
On the machine with the 2 network cards, go to START, then RUN and type in WINIPCFG and press...
Reinstall TCP/IP for the ISDN connection. IF your isdn modem uses dial up networking, go to properties of the isdn connection (my computer>dial up networking>rt click the connection) and clickon the SERVER TYPES tab. Make sure that the only two things selected are enable software compression...
