leading ... three fonts and nested styles

Glad I could help. If I know I'm going to be doing nested styles, I'll use one of the "set" spaces (em, en, thin) so that I don't create any confusion with the nested styles. I might even use two thin spaces where I might normally use a space because I'm certain I wouldn't use two thin spaces...

leading ... three fonts and nested styles

The key to getting nested styles to know when to change to the next style is having a constant, repeating element. How are you generating the leader dots? Are you manually entering them or are they part of a tab? Also, are they just the three dots (ellipsis)? If the amount of dots is different...

Exporting to Press PDF Preset, InDesign CS3

Just to clarify on the flattener option...if you're saving to Acrobat 5 or above, you won't have that option since the file isn't flattened when saved to these versions. If you save to Acrobat 4, the file is flattened using the flattener setting you choose. Is the faint background showing up on...

In Design Books and Master Pages

My mistake Andrew...yes that feature is CS 3 only. I often can't remember what features were there and since when (especially if I don't use it often like this one). I used my handy reference chart and it said this feature was "improved" in CS 3...guess they meant book synching...

leading ... three fonts and nested styles

Do you mean "leader dots" instead of "leading?" Leading is the space between lines, but it sounds from your example that your leader dots are coming out bold and you want them to be normal. In your example, is the first bit of text actually in parenthesis? So: (list item 1)...(list item...

text wrap only affects text underneath

If you only occasionally need to have text that sits on top of pictures with text wrap, select the text frame, go into Text Frame Options (under the Object menu) and choose Ignore Text Wrap. Keep in mind that the text frame will now ignore text wrap for ANY graphic it interacts with that has...

In Design Books and Master Pages

You can synchronize master pages in a book...in CS2 and CS3. Here's some online info on that: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/5.0/help.html?content=WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6cbd.html Hope that helps some...

    indesign to Word Template

There's no way to save it out to Word. If you just need to create letters in Word on your letterhead, save the InDesign file as a PDF, place the PDF in Word in the background, and allow text to sit on top of the PDF in Word. Hope that helps.

Font size arrows grayed out in Control palette

HI! I haven't visited in a while...sorry doodler that I didn't answer about the PC/Permissions thing. I don't know if there's a PC solution...maybe one of our other users can help out? I think the permission repair has to do with the fact that OS X is UNIX so not sure of the PC equivalent...some...

first line of colum is empty /white

You will want to remove the manual paragraph return...instead of putting space in between paragraphs, use the Space Before/Space After commands in your paragraph palette...if the white space is between paragraphs, it will be there...but if the space would be at the top of the column, it won't...

    Dethreading text in InDesign

There is also a script called BreakFrame that does it for you...I think it's on the InDesign CD...with the extra scripts.

    Automatic highlight in text

Can you send me the file? Sometimes what trips people up is that there is a Rule Above with a check box, then a Rule Below with a check box and one or the other gets missed. Let me know if I can help out with the mystery... -Erica

    Automatic highlight in text

So it IS a paragraph rule...did you check to see that both Rule Above and Rule Below were checked or not?

    Automatic highlight in text

It could also be any other of the composition errors (substituted fonts, as mentioned above, subs. glyphs, H&J Violations, etc.)... If it's not built as a character style, and not one of the above mentioned comp errors, then it might have been achieved via a script or plugin...but it would...

Images losing resolution/quality when placed in Indesign

Is the type rasterized (i.e. how/where did you create the PDF)? You say the "original" is 300 dpi...since PDFs don't have resolution, but rather the images in a PDF do, it sounds like you've created the PDFs in Photoshop? I'm not sure if you have control over the PDF creation (sounds like you...

Cropping off excess in masked object - clipping mask in ID?

I'm not sure visually how the object is supposed to look, but you can also copy the text (outlined or not) and then select the shape and choose Paste Into...now the text is like a graphic placed inside the colored box. To move it around, select the text with the Direct Selection tool (hollow...

    Combining 2 tables into 1

There may be a script or plugin that does that (google for table linking in InDesign or something similar)...to do it manually, I would go to the first table and add the number of rows that are in the 2nd table. Then, select all the cells in the 2nd table and copy, then select all the new blank...

Need recommendation for good ID books or publications

I really like the "Real World InDesign" series...they're by David Blatner (InDesign Secrets, InDesign Magazine, etc.) and Olav Kvern....very "meaty" books. I buy every edition that comes out...bought the first one just for the printing chapter alone! -Erica Gamet
