Okay well I have just upgraded to to CS3 and when I try to export my art from InDesign using the presets in Fil>PDf export>Press Quality. Anywhere I have used a drop shadow effect on teh text, I have a very faint background to teh text box.... When I export to Screen this faint background vanishes and it exports to PDF ecxactly as it appears on the screen.

This is driving me bonkers and can probably cured easily, can any body help as I have to supply all my work for press in PDF! Its killing my deadlines!

In the Advanced tab of the pdf export, make sure that transparency flattener is set to high.

In the general tab, see what happens if you make it compatible with Acrobat 4, which flattens things more than other versions.

This same thing came up a lot with CS1, with drop shadows so you might search this forum for more.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Just to clarify on the flattener option...if you're saving to Acrobat 5 or above, you won't have that option since the file isn't flattened when saved to these versions. If you save to Acrobat 4, the file is flattened using the flattener setting you choose.

Is the faint background showing up on screen or when you output the PDF? If printing, what device are you printing to?

I am Printing to Postscript Laser where I proof and then tried the Ink Jet and it printds out what I see in the PDF I have exported. I also get this when I print to PDF. But it appears as less of a problem if I open the files with the problems in in Adobe Acorbat 8....

Your right I couldn't use the flattner presets in the PDF export dialogue box when exporting to ADobe 4.
