Just wondering if anyone knows what steps I have to take -from a CommVault point of view- to backup virtual servers using vSphere VADP. I understand I need to install a Virtual Server Agent and VDDK1.2 on a proxyserver. Anything else? Any help is appreciated.
Did you discover and configure the databases in the subclient? Did you also install SP5 and patch 1358? Is SQL installed on the same server or remote? What version of SQL? Even if SQL is local if it's Enterprise select SQL Database Hosted on a Remote SQL Serve.
Yes, it's called an Incremental Storage Policy. Create a different Storage Policy with only one copy and different retention times. Select the option Use incremental Storage Policy and point it to this new Storage Policy. Non-full backups will then be "forwarded" to the new Storage Policy with a...
Did it work before? If not, were there any errors during the installation? Did you fill in the correct credentials in the Oracle SubClient (including domain!). Are the latest CommVault patches installed? If yes, is there anything in the RMAN log?
You need to have a license for NDMP Remote Server if you want to use a standard Windows Storage Policy; if want to make NDMP backups (tape devices and library controller are accesible by the filer) you need a new Storage Policy.
If you want to backup a BlueArc filer, you have to configure it doing a Right-click on Client Computers and select New Client. You only see a MediaAgent listed under computers if it has a FileSystem Agent installed.
Change Journal is a Microsoft functionality. I would check the Event Viewer of the server. If there is nothing there, you could check the CommVault logs (filescan.log or something) for an error related to the problem. This will probably refer to a Microsoft error which you can google.
You can...
First check if the version of SAP and the platform are supported (System Requirements CommVault Books Online). Check also if SAP has been upgraded in the past; CommVault might find an entry for an older version of SAP still in the registry which is not supported; if so, remove that old entry.
If you enhance the Multiplexing factor, more readers will be able to use the tape drive. The number of readers is dependent on the number of physical drives of the server or the option Allow multiple data readers within a drive or mount point (SubClient). In CommVault Books Online it states...
If you need to restore data only it's no problem. If you need to restore other things like registry to a server with a different chip set you might need to filter things or disable some overwrite option (check the restore options for the registry). Otherwise the restore might complete...
This could be a solution for you (from Books Online):
"Set the Archive Bit Attribute
To set the archive bit:
From the CommCell Browser, right-click the desired file system backup set node, and then click Properties from the shortcut menu.
From the General tab, select the Check archive bit...
I guess it's best to make an Auxiliary copy. You can also try Tapetoolgui in de Base directory but the data will be on a tape with a different barcode.
I guess recreating a schedule doesn't work? Did you check time and time zone settings at the CommVault schedule and the OS level?
I have seen this once before after an 6.1 -> 7.0 upgrade. CommVault Support provided a SQL script to fix it.
I have often disabled Oplocks without issues. Do it in 2 places DisAbleOplocks yes and EnableOplocks no.
Also make sure you have installed the latest 6.1 (DataMigrator) patches.
Maybe your AntiVirus program is interfering with DM did you look up already DataMigrator + name_of_your_antivirus...
I would do a Right Mouse Button on the job in the Job Controller and select View Log Files. In the cvd.log you could find more information. If there is a Dangling Job detected you have to reboot the Exchange server. You can also try to configure a Data Interface Pair between the Exchange server...
