Fedroa 11 - Kickstart RAID LVM Issue

Fedora 11. Im trying to setup kickstart so it lays out a mirrored volume group. I have 2 disks sda and sdb. I want a primary partition on each disk 200mb in size for /boot. This is to be mirrored onto raid device md0 (raid 1). The rest of each disk is to be setup partition which grows to use...

    problems with LAN adapter

Are you sure the adapter is assigned correctly to your lpar ?

    replacing FC adapter

Presumably you have 2 fibre adapters in your active cluster node. If so, you could hot swap the failed adapter without taking down the service, or failing the service over.

updating to 5300-07 Service Pack 3

You might want to consider looking at multibos too, as an alternative to alt_disk_install. Multibos is now my preferred method for upgrading AIX, although it does require you have sufficient space in your rootvg...

newbie question: how to determine the physical size of a filesystem?

I would strongly recommend you download and read the AIX LVM redbook. AIX Logical Volume Manager from A to Z: Introduction and Concepts http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg245432.pdf and AIX Logical Volume Manager from A to Z: Troubleshooting and Commands...

VIO Single User Mode Default Password

Anyone know what the default single user mode password is for VIO ? The version I am using is 1.5 FP 10. Its hanging on boot due to network type issues, meaning i never get a login prompt. Booted to single user mode so i could have a look around, but it asks for a password, and I dont know...

    alt-disk-install (AIX 5.2 to AIX 5.3)

yes, you can use alt_disk_install to migrate. Clone to a spare disk (or split your rootvg mirror if you need to). You can either boot from clone, or upgrade the running instance. As a precaution, i would boot to the clone, and then upgrade that.

    JFS2 File Fragmentation

Hi Crypto Yes, i have already used fileplace, and have confirmed heavily fragmented files. I was really looking to see if there was a way to resolve this, but without having to go through the pain of backing up, deleting and restoring data into new filesystems. I just dont understand why...

    JFS2 File Fragmentation

Hi Khalid It just seems like a drastic thing to have to do.

    JFS2 File Fragmentation

no, defragfs does not defrag fragmented files. from the LVM redbook. Running defragfs does not solve the problem of fragmented files. The Defragfs command only reorganizes the free disk blocks so more contiguous free space is available.

    JFS2 File Fragmentation

Hi All What is the best way to deal with heavily fragmented files on a jfs2 filesystem ? I have seen other threads where it has been suggested that removing data from the filesystems, either by copying to temp location, create new filesystems, and then restore. I was rather hoping that would...

    Increase stripe width

Ive found some notes online which indicate that extension of stiped logical volumes can be achieved by adding additional striped columns. http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/aix/library/au-aix5l-lvm.html However, what Im really after is the ability to increase the existing stripe width online. I...
