you can forward dns requests from one domain without a dns server to a domian that does. Yur w2k clients need to find a dc to log-on, thats why its taking ages to login. I suggest reading up on dns. Microsoft white papers should help.
I added a host record to the dns but this still did not work. I had to add the dns ip to the dns listings as I only put in our isp's dns servers :/
I used netdiag /debug (found as a support tool on the windows 2000 server cd) to see if the server could find the dns server. This helped point me...
Im in the middle of building and adding a new server into one of our domains as a dc. When i configure the active directory so it can join as a dc i get operation failed.
Failed finding a suitable domain controller for the domain newdom.local.

I agree with paul, any service you want to run out on the net should be put in a DMZ, all rules on your fw should block unwanted access to your DMZ servers.
I think wot yr asking is about migrating nt to 2000. The way I would go about it goes a little like this. Install nt on a server as a bdc in yr domain, sync all yr data. Take it off your network, upgrade it to win2k.

Install w2k into yr nt domain, then sync the data with it. Im playing to...
Make sure your the password lengths are correct on your fw user object and that the correct client s/w is installed (des or strong(des).
Check throu yr rules, you must know 100% what yr doing here or change.

Have you tried to apply the local group policy to the pcs. I cant find anywhere where you would pick a group for the GP to affect (in a domain you would), but I think it will not affect the admin account.
Try it.
I have a Domino 5.0.5 Sept 2000 server.
Sometimes when mail is sent out the attachments become corrupt.
Any one else seen this or has a solution.
Ideas and help is greatly received .
yeah thats how i fixed mine, sorry I forgot to mention that one aswell. If your not using DHCP just enter the ip and servername in your hosts file in root\system32\drivers\ect\hosts, remember to hit enter after you have entered it in.
Kristmu,
Are you using the computer name or IP address? Try adding the following to your hosts file Found under root\system32\drivers\ect\hosts
<IP> <servername>
Make you place hit return after each line, do this for how many servers you have.
This will enable you to search or look at your...
