I am testing SecuRemote as a VPN solution for our cable modem and dsl remote access users (Windows 9x). I have been successful in getting most of them to connect (except when NAT and port blocking is being used, but that's another story). One problem these successful users are having is that they are periodically prompted by SR to authenticate during an already established connection. The first SR authentication they do is upon boot up when they are prompted for their MS Networking logon credentials. At this point, they do authenticate to my company's domain after a successful SR authentication. However, throughout the day, the SR authentication window will pop up randomly. They don't seem to have lost any connectivity, but do enter the SR id/password to "reauthenticate". The users don't need to reboot and reauthenticate to the NT domain. These users are accessing an Exchange server via Outlook as well as various other NT and Unix servers.

Again, they have already authenticated with SR and to my NT domain. What is causing the login prompt to then appear about 5 or 6 times throughout an 8-hour work day? Am I missing some setting that governs the length or SR sessions?

Try checking the Secure Remote timeout period. I believe you need to try and edit one of the Secure_Remote_users and look at the timeout configured.

Try enabling the SSO (Single Sign on )Facility in the secureremote which will stop asking for the password in the future even when u reboot the laptop.

spoogy, this is exactly what I need! Can you please outline your rules because I inherited this installation and cannot add, fix, or setup anything and get it to work. I need exactly the config you are doing. I have remote users needing to be part of the LAN when remote and haven't been able to get them to connect to exchange, or their telnet session to a unix box or printers or anything. Some are already working but when I try to do the same with another user I get "user not configured properly." Please, please help.

Make sure your the password lengths are correct on your fw user object and that the correct client s/w is installed (des or strong(des).

Check throu yr rules, you must know 100% what yr doing here or change.

I'm reading everything I can and no luck. Here's something even wierder: I use one of the other end users (who IS able to log onto and browse the LAN at work) usernames and passwords but I can't see the LAN from my machine at home. He dials up with Win98 but I can't see anything. So it's obviously my machine at home. How's that for a stumper?

I too have experienced this problem, but it is a little more frequent. I set up a user at her home and she can access the network, internet, email, etc. The problem that I see is that whenever she tries to do something that would have to access the Domain for something, the SR authentication screen will Pop up. Even stranger, that if she enters her information, it will not re-authenticate her, disconnect her where she has to log off and then back on. But if she just clicks on cancel, she can go on about her business on the Domain like nothing. We have no idea why this pops up all the time. Any help in this would be great.
