the paper out flag in tray #1 maybe missing or out of place. load 2 sheets of paper in tray #1 and print a 3 page document. (make sure you have no paper in tray 2) if the flag is missing or out of place you should get a paper jam, if its ok you should get "load paper msg"
i have seen that defect in other machines. i believe its called fish eyes..its common with remanufactured toner. its caused by contamination in the toner hopper or the toner itself.
when the 740 is duplexing the paper does not come out the side. there is a solenoid that redirects the paper thru the door where you access the toner ctgs. i believe there is a flag there that hangs.. if you need more help i will try to send you a diagram
this printer is driving me nuts...problem is herratic...printer will jam at exit, paper comes out about 1/2 way then it jams and suck the page back in about 1/4 leaving about 1/4 of the page out side. paper has cleared the transfix assy. any ideas.

try to adjust the carriage to paper height....you will have to turn the torx screws that secure the carriage rod to the printer. do it in 1/4 turn increments...let me know if it works.
