IIS installed but is not listed in Services

I don't see "World Wide Web Publishing Service" in the services list either, nor is inetinfo.exe running. I'm not familiar with the term MMC -- I may know it as something else.

IIS installed but is not listed in Services

I have IIS installed and it was running, but now it is not even listed in the SERVICES list. When I look at Add/Remove Windows Components, IIS is listed with a greyed checked box. Any idea how I can get it running again? Thanks

    Auto-Update

Well, I switched AutoUpdate to autoDownload and I haven't seen any updates yet to be installed. So my AutoUpdate is on the fritz. Are there any services besides AU that must be running to allow AU do do it's thing?

    Auto-Update

How do I tell? Once the fix is supposed to be downloaded, I have no idea what to look for. I don't keep a record of the number (I can next time it arrives) but to date I don't know where the download is placed, whether or not it gets installed, how to check if it is installed. So far, none of...

    Auto-Update

six3077: There have been 3 critical updates this year. Is it possible that you haven't had the latest one? (for IE) OK, it's been 3. Of course it's possible. They won't download. THAT's the problem. Why won't they download is my question. And the latest one for IE is the current one that...

    Minor annoyance about opening folders

I have a couple folders on my desktop, one of which has about 6 items in it. I have the folder options set to "Remember each folder's view settings". I don't think this is waht I want, but it's set. I size the folder display to be just large enough to display the entries, and the...

    Auto-Update

Not yet, linney. I already know HOW to set up Auto Update. I want to know why when updates are ready to download and I have notification properly set, they do not download. Standard instructions are of no help in this situation. bcastner, the last two updates have not worked (the last one...

    Auto-Update

Simply control. They've had updates that were wrong and I'd rather install when I'm sure their "fix" is correct. It used to work before downloading, I like to know why it doesn't now. Walt

    Auto-Update

Up to December, when the AutoUpdate icon showd up in the system tray, I could start the download if I wanted it. Then when it was downloaded, the icon would come back so I could install the update. Now, I start the download, and a day or two later the icon returns, and the update is ready for...

    Modem not detected

I could tell, Rory ;-) Thanks for the info, Krale. After posting I found out what a winmodem really was -- essentially a crippled piece of hardware to save $. I didn't see anything on the Conexant page, and linmodems.org implied my modem might work but no guarantees (at least I think that's...

    Audiophile Soundcard

Thanks, WMG, that was it. I never expected the system to install a 'stereo' app with one channel off, so I didn't think to try that. Silly Me! Thanks again.

    Modem not detected

Thanks FM, I'll check out linmodems.org. I remember years ago that a WinModem, unless I'm mistaken, simply meant it was a modem with windows drivers and the 'Win' was sales fluff. So what does the hardware do special that requires Windows? It seems to me there should be drivers that can be...

    Audiophile Soundcard

On my SuSE 8.2 installation, my Audiophile 2496 card is producing sound from only one channel. It works fine on the XP boot. I found references but no usable information to solve the problem. Any information someone can point me to that doesn't require a Masters in Linux Administration would...

I just installed SuSE Linux 8.2 and the internal modem went undetected. (Makes it hard to surf for answers) Looks like the modem uses Lucent protocols. Can someone help a newbie find and activate the modem? Thanks, Walt
