    Linked server security

Yeah, I don't know what is going on. I can schedule a job that issues the same query and the job will run successfully. SQL Agent is running under the same login that i used to login to QA. So I don't know what is happening. I am about ready to call tech support. Thanks, John

SQL Server 2000 Compatability with Windows 2003 Server

I agree with the other posts. The only thing different with 2003 & SQL Server is that by default, you cannot access another 2003 via DTS. You need to enable this by going to Add/REmove Programs, Add/Remove Windows components, Application server. Click on enable network DTS access. This...

    Linked server security

Denny, I can run the select statement that you mentioned and it returns results. If I try against the MSDB or any user databases, it doesn't return anything. The account I am signing into QA with is a sysadmin account on both servers. John

    Linked server security

Thanks for the reply! If I setup remote logins for the highend access, the remote logins are SQL Server correct? I would like to stay away from having to administer remote sql server logins. I have started setting security account delegation up and am not having too much success. I am...

    Linked server security

I need some help with setting up our linked servers. We have a couple of jobs that run on a weekly basis that need sysadmin access to our linked servers. The rest of the time we only want only the report users that have a login on the linked server to have select access to them. So here is...

    Office 2004 & Olap cubes

We have a user that has a Mac OS X and office 2004. Any idea if we can connect to a Microsoft SQL Server OLAP cube? I can't find how to do it. We know that it wasn't available in Office 98 but we hope that they put it in the newest version. We will take any info that you have. Thanks! John

How do I remove the Builtin\Administrators group with TSQL?

When I run sp_droplogin 'BUILTIN\Administrators' it comes back and says the login does not exist. If you go into EM, it is right there. Any other ideas? John

How do I remove the Builtin\Administrators group with TSQL?

I am creating a script that will perform a bunch of steps to lock down any new servers that we create. One of the steps is to remove the builtin\Administrators group. I have tried using sp_dropgroup and sp_droprole but neither of them work. Is there a way to drop this group via TSQL...

Connect to console via Remote Desktop

Thanks for verifying this for me. I also figured out how to get it to work over Remote desktop web connection against a win 2003 server. It is pretty slick. It adds checkbox option for connecting to the console. I was hoping to get this same option for win 2000 server but we will probably...

Connect to console via Remote Desktop

Thanks for the info but I already have Terminal services up and running on the server. I can connect to it via Remote Desktop but what I want to do is connect to the console session. I know this is possible in win 2003 server but have not found a definite answer for win 2000 server. John

Connect to console via Remote Desktop

Can someone verify that it is impossible to connect to the console of a windows 2000 server? I have tried several things but have been unsuccessful with each thing. I have done several searches on google but haven't turned up a definite answer yet. I would appreciate the help! Thanks! John

Thanks for the help. Last night I deleted the old connection and created a new one. It then dialed out. Not sure exactly what caused the problem but oh well. It works! Thanks again! John

Windows 98 - can't find modem when trying to dial out

I don't have any phone/fax software installed so that can't be open. I will have to check the IE options that you listed. Another piece of info, when I go into control panel and under modems. It lists the modem installed. When I click on modem diagnostics and then on more info, it returns all...

Windows 98 - can't find modem when trying to dial out

Older Compaq machine with Windows 98 just reloaded on it. I put in a US Robotics 56k winmodem. Windows 98 finds it and I installed the driver for it, no problem. I go to set up a internet connection and when it trys to dial out, it says that the modem cannot be found or that the port is...

Win 98 won't recognize modem but the bios does???

This is an old compaq machine. Not exactly how old, it is a friend's. The BIOS setup is different than any other BIOS setup I have seen. In there, there is a section called Add-in Devices. I go in there and it recognizes the US Robotics Sportster Winmodem 28.8. In there, I can configure the...

Need help with deleting rows & table constraints

Hi John, Thanks for the suggestions but BOL also says that this only works for Insert & Update statements. I did get excited when I first read that in BOL but the excitement didn't last long. Plus doing this really negates the reason to have constraints in the first place. Thanks! John

Need help with deleting rows & table constraints

We have a table, Addresses, that contains around 2 million rows. We have 3 other tables that have foreign key contraints that reference the Addresses table. Each of those 3 tables contain around 2 million rows. The Addresses table has a primary key of CycleId, ExtractTypeId, AcctNo. It has a...

I have a win98 machine that i just reloaded. At first, windows was seeing that there was a US Robotics SPortster windom 28.8 modem installed and was asking me to load the driver for it. I went out and downloaded what I thought was the right driver. When I pointed it to the downloaded files...
