It depends,
If your infrastructure is stable (i.e. not growing abnormally or adding new servers all of the time) then you should have minimal spare space (in your example <100GB)
But if your infrastructure is changing/growing then it is nice to have a 5% head room to allow for any 'emergency'...
The DMX design is based on the design of the EMC/DG clariion. So I do not believe there are any Scsi repeaters in there ( pretty sure )

hi there,
symcfg discover should resolve the problem, but not always!
if you still have problems using the gatekeepers then you need to define them using symgate
symgate define dev <devid>
do that for each of the gatekeepers.
hope this helps..

if you can see the VCM database, then you can bet (99.9999%) that it is a volume logix issue.
Have you added access for the HBA's to see the luns?
A quick way to check -
> fpath lshbavols -d \\.\physicaldrive1 -w <wwn>

Vega,
there are currently no products on the market that emulate the control centre.
There are a lot of things you can do safely to learn ECC.
As with all dangerous cammands it will ask you to confirm.
I would start with symcli commands. They are very safe as they are mostly just for...
All EMC symm products (until the latest release DMX) use a scsi backend, so they are all scsi drives. This has been the case since the symmetrix series first came out.
The newer model uses fibre drives.

I agree it depends on what the server is running.
If the server does not use any symcli etc commands then there is no need for any gatekeepers.
But on the other hand, If you have a mangement console that should have several (i.e.4-6).
But for a normal server that will just be using it for...
