Error opening the gatekeeper device for communication to the Symmetrix

Any ideas how we open the gatekeeper or what we need to do . Tried searching through EMC.com sites but it is very hard going

Many thanks

Check for the existence of the symapi_licenses.dat file.

The default installation path is /var/symapi/config/symapi_licenses.dat.

Run the SYMAPI License Management Facility (/usr/symcli/bin/symlmf), and enter at a minimum the BASE license.

You could also try moving the "symapi_db.bin" to "symapi_db.old" & run a symcfg discover.

Do the following command:

symcfg discover.

This will resolve your problem!

hi there,

symcfg discover should resolve the problem, but not always!
if you still have problems using the gatekeepers then you need to define them using symgate
symgate define dev <devid>
do that for each of the gatekeepers.

hope this helps..

Hi,

If we take a look at your display :

Symmetrix ID: 000283701189 <-- the first symmetrix got 4 GKs
Symmetrix ID: 000284701575 <-- the snd symmetrix doesn't have GKs

So now, it exist different way to resolve your issue :
A- to map some GK to FA (connected to your actual server) asking EMC to put a new bin or to use symconfigure then to set correctly the lun masking if your are in FC-SW (with Volume Logix or ESN Manager) then to force your OS to recognise news luns and then to run a symcfg disocver

B- to check the variable EMC using the following command !
symcli -set (to check the EMC variable already set)
symcli -env (to see which EMC variable are available)

Then to set the following variable : SYMCLI_SKIP_ON_FAILURE=1

Then run a symcfg discover.

Hope it can help you.
