Have you checked programs like 'top' to see where the memory is going?

My soundcard runs fine off the same driver (I know it's sblive but im not sure which version). Mdk actually configured everything for me. (unlike it did using sb16) i can post any config files relevant here if you want (it may be awhile till im online again but ill try)...
Thanx,Leland123
I actually have one Nvdia card(which i already downloaded drivers for - they work great!!) and one crappy one, but i don't hold out much hope for that one

Thanks, but that wasnt my problem: the icon was appearing but something was going wierd in the SCSI layer emulation that made it act like an empty drive (eg. a usb floppy drive w/no floppy).
Whatever it was, it randomly stopped and now works fine. I think mandrake 10 (community) has some...
do the NVDIA drivers work for non-NVDIA cards as well?

Ya might also wanna keep your 9.1 cds around - some familiar software isn't included in 10

If you had problems w/sound in 9.1, you get them again in 10 but you have to apply a different fix. 10 uses alsa by default, so prepare for the change.

What about RPM availability? I have mandrake and all it's RPMs have .mdk tacked on to the end, and im not sure if you can use ones that don't. When I use rpmfind, sometimes it gets what i want in exclusively in Suse RPMS and sometimes only Mandrake. Which are generally more available (or is...
No idea what program they're using, i think just the OS if that's possible (im not a mac user - i want to not kill myself) I think they honestly don't know why this is happenning - but how much time they've put into it i don't know. It's impossible to get tech to do anything at our school...
Our school's free use lab consists of iMacs running MacOS 9.2.2. We're locked out of almost anySometimes, when you try to write to a removable drive (usb, floppy, cd-burner) it says "You may not copy the selected items because you do not have enough access privileges" The librarian says she's...
Sorry, forgot to check alsa site before asking here. working fine now, needed to modprobe snd-sb16 and maybe not modprobe sb

I just installed Mandrake 10 on a computer w/a pci usb card.
Everything seems to be running fine as far as the usb interface goes, but im having some trouble getting my usbdrive to run. (64M QuickiDrive formatted FAT32) when i insert the drive, something running somewhere (i don't think it's...

ok, but i don't really feel like modifying the automounter (no time)
i was just trying to find out if there was some standard
maybe there should be one (if not through core linux then though gnome or kde, etc...) the goal of graphical desktops, is after all to make life easier for the user...
Actually, i was not wondering for other users, but for my own convienience. It would be nice, for example, to be able to insert a game cd and have it pop up w/a nice little box asking you if you want to play (chances are you do if you put in the cd)
If not raw linux, then maybe some standard...
Must be my vid card. Crapppy, don't even know who made it - pulled it out of a junk box.
Probably should get around to upgrading that sometime=D

I have an amd-k6/200 and it takes forever to do anything in X. Most of the time i just resort to CTRL-ALT-[F1<->F6] ( i actually added an extra term on F8 cause i use them so much )
