Get yourself a Win98 box and run the games on that. Win2k Server is meant to be just that: a server. It is setup for background app, etc. Besides, drivers and file system and the games themselves are not meant for win2k Server.
Hope that helps.
I would change every partition to NTFS. It does not matter to the OS (or to Active Dir for that matter) if it's extended or logical.
You can convert the file system to NTFS by using the convert command from the command prompt. You will have to reboot to convert the sys drive. If you type...
I guess I can start with the simple questions first. My apologies if you already tried this...
Does the BIOS recognize the drives as ATA133? Is the partition NTFS?
Also, if you are running Win2k, you will not get ATA100 support unless you run Service Pack 2. That may be your problem right...
It sounds like your drive is bad. Can you mount the drive in a working machine and try to format it from within windows? That might give you more information about the drive.
I would mount the drive in a win2k box and run some diagnostic's on it.
Hope that helps.
Just so I got it clear: a Micro-ATX board in a full tower ATX case?? if that is right, then you will not have any problems at all. It will actually be nice and easy as you will have tons o' room.
Hope that helps.
to: fateswebb RE: your "heheh "set up your own dns server" that is a little bit techinical and overkill..." comment.
A DNS server, running linux, can be set up by booting to the cd rom, hitting the Enter key 5 times, typing one word, and waiting 20 minutes. Is that too...
you're probably right: the mobo is bad.
Are the two cpu's exaclly the same? Stepping? Manufacturing location? etc? If you read the top, it will tell you that info. That is the only other thing that I can think of.
You can run some diagnostic software to stress test the board. I have a...
You need to either set your DNS (from within Network Properties) to point to your cable providers DNS server, or set your own DNS server up. I would opt for the second option, as the cable companies have been known to have problems.
It's real easy to do. You could use some crappy old computer...
Yes, it is very easy to do. Copy the CD to your drive, change the file the way you want, then remake the bootable cd using CDRWIN and the boot.bin file that can be found around on the Net. There are lots of sites that explain this process out there.
Hope that helps.
Short answer would be: yes. If you are going to be setting up a Raid array (1,0, or 10), you will have to build that array on the new mobo, then re-partition in Windows. You can use that array that you build to put the boot partition on, you just have to hit F6 and load the drivers when you...
What are your DNS settings? Win2k is very dependent upon a working DNS server on your Intranet, and the clients pick up that DNS info either from DHCP, or you point them directly to that DNS box.
Hope that helps.
