When one of our newer employees got his new PC, he was having problems opening one of his Access files. When I tried to help with the security level on the file, I used the wrong "Security" under the Tools pulldown and really screwed things up for him.
Instead of going to Tools/Macro/Security...
thanks byunt & KenWright, but Gavona's answer was exactly what I needed. Your ideas were also good ones, but I have beginner level Excel people who will be using the template that I created so I needed to KISS if you know what I mean. :)
Every month they have to download reports and then get a...
Gavin, I could just HUG you and give you THOUSANDS of gold stars!!!
If you only KNEW how much time you've saved me and others.
Thank you EVER so much. :)
Awhile ago there was a thread (thread68-720840) going whereas xlbo wrote the following formula:
=SUMPRODUCT((Left($B$1:$B$4,3)="SER")*($C$1:$C$4="Policy"))
I'm trying to modify this formula to work for a project that will be done on a daily basis.
Here's the scenario:
Column A will consist...
Why not do a Ctrl +A (select all) and then just go to Format pull-down, borders & shading, then no fill. That wouldn't change your font styles or sizes, just the shading.
Someone else asked this question already but it was posted in 2002 and no one had an answer so now it's MY turn. :)
I have an associate who uses Outlook 2000 and is using Word to edit his e-mail. For some reason, his zoom in Outlook keeps defaulting to 75% which looks very tiny. I've changed...
First, our company uses Office 2000.
I want to create a form that managers have to fill out that has approximately 75 questions. Depending on what employee level the associate is (answer entered in cell B9) determines which questions the manager wants to show up in the rows below in which they...
OK...we finally got the problem to happen again on someone else. On this new person, when she opens an attachment (.csv)in Outlook, she gets that same gray empty space BUT in the formula box, it's showing a document name. A fellow technician was trying to find out what the problem was so she...
I asked the associate to bring up a few files and try your "arrange" suggestion. Unfortunately, at the moment it's working ok so we'll have to wait until it screws up on her again. It's sporadic as to when it happens. She may go a few days with it being ok and then WHAM...she'll get...
xlbo, I was so ready to kick myself in the butt if that fixed it but alas, it did not.
I had the associate open a few files until she got one that she couldn't see (disappeared). She got to the point where the Windows pull-down showed 3 files but she could only see 2 on the screen so I had her...
Using Windows 2000, Office 2000
Before we go any further, picture this:
You open Excel...it shows Book1...you close the file, not the program...you now have a big gray empty space in the middle of your monitor.
Ok, hold that thought now. :)
An associate at the company I work for keeps...
Does it HAVE to show the 1st of the month? Couldn't you just change the format so it shows "05/2001". If so, all you'd have to do is go to customize cell and show mm/yyyy.
You guys are SO GREAT! I tried the concatenate option. Of course, the helper column looks weird but it works fabulous! Concatenated from column C to column S.
Thanks all...I LOVE this site! So many helpers...so much to learn!

I have a file in Excel that has 30 columns and over 3,000 rows of text and I need to sort by more than 3 columns as is usually the case because I'm looking for duplicates and it'll take more than 3 columns to decide which are duplicates.
Is there a way to sort by Column A, then Column B, then...
I found a pretty good OCR program that I use. It's called TextBridge. Much better than OmniPage and costs only from about $75 - $100. Omnipage cost me about $550 when I bought it and I didn't like the results. Much less "cleaning up" with TextBridge.
If you're doing a whole column full of phone numbers you could always do 3 find and replaces?
The first one would be
Find: (
Replace with:
and don't put anything in the replace with field
Then Replace All
The second one would be
Find: )<space>
Replace with:
and again don't put anything in...
