Sol 8 : can not open module /usr/lib/security/pam_authtok_get.so.1

ah yes, it indeed was that damn patch 108993-18, tho it took me digging thru the patch release notes after-the-fact (bad admin!) to figure it out. i hadn't previously run across such a "do this after applying the patch but before you reboot" sort of a thing with the Sol patches, so i...

Sol 8 : can not open module /usr/lib/security/pam_authtok_get.so.1

hmmm...wish I could help you. I'm having a similar problem and have not found a remedy so far. my prob occurs upon boot up when trying to login (either via Telnet, ssh, CDE login or command-line login). I'm getting that load_modules: can not open module /usr/lib/security/pam_authtok_get.so.1...

Samba connecting from Sun to XP

hard to be sure specifically what isn't working or what error msg you're getting. are you using encrypted or unencrypted passwords in samba? if using unencrypted, did you modify the XP security policy to accept unencrypted password from smb servers?

    Solaris 8

are you behind a firewall? that happens with me on my solaris machines at work (and my win machines for that matter). i can get to yahoo.com and whatever else thru a browser because of course the browser is config'd to use a proxy for connecting to external sites. but ping has no way of knowing...

    problems running script via cron

it was pmurray99's that ended up being the clincher for me figuring out the problem, which itself was tied to what bi suggested. i added the lines as you suggested to create a log file which was exactly what I was seeking to be able to troubleshoot where the script(s) were blowing up. and that...

    Connecting to Windows Domain

hoping this isn't too simplistic, but have you tried samba? I haven't yet jumped up to RH9, but I know RH 7.2 & 8 give you the option of installing samba services in the initial install. however, an even better idea no matter what version Linux you're on is to go to samba.org and grab the latest...

    problems running script via cron

I did search thru all other cron prob postings here and tons elsewhere, sifted repeatedly thru the crontab and cron man pages, tried anything that seemed remotely applicable but still no luck. let's see if any of you can puzzle this one out - i'm stumped :). I have a script that I have set to...

nmbd probs (Linux samba), "no service is operating.." client msg

ok, found the solution - what a bonehead I am, can you tell I'm a Linux newbie? It was the default firewall of course. just turned it off and suddenly samba worked beautifully. now i just need to go back and tweak the firewall so that samba traffic can get thru with the firewall up. chris

nmbd probs (Linux samba), "no service is operating.." client msg

Samba server on Linux 2.2.5, client is Windows 2000 & NT. I've made it successfully thru DIAGNOSIS.txt steps 1-7. However on both 8 & 9 a no-go on connecting to the shares. The message is one I've not seen with any previous attempts to connect to my other samba servers: "No service is...
