Thanks, but I tried that, all I can see is the usual type styles. Make Fraction, Make Price and Remove Underline features are there, but they are grayed out. I can't see any other options in my menu.
I'd go with the View > Thumbnails option, but be aware that if you have different values assigned to your style sheets and H&Js that it's only going to give you one of them -- could cause reflow.
On the fonts issue, if you don't have a suitable matching mac font, try Fontographer. I don't think they make it any more, but the last version I got (a freebie from Adobe) is still working fine. I've been able to convert freely from pc to mac and back, true type, type 1, etc. Only sometimes...
Thanks for all the input folks. I also only had the picture (enhanced metafile) option -- it worked fine, just use that under your paste special. While we're talking about enhanced metafiles, I have had a lot of luck with getting good, usable vector files out of these puppies -- illustrator...
First of all, as long as all your picture file names have not changed -- simply put your quark document right in your images folder with your images and open it from there. It should automatically come up with all of your images OK when you check your picture usage. It's possible you may get...
The file is fine, it's strictly the preview that's showing you this. But it's mighty inconvenient when you want to move, change, reduce or rotate, etc. and you can't see what's happening. When you get this on a Mac, it's because the image was saved specifically as an ascii preview, and...
I would definitely rebuild the Xpress preferences file, sure it takes you back to Quark's ground zero defaults, but it's better than starting over. Also, if you're on a Mac, you may also want to check the memory alotment for Quark, and rebuild the desktop as a couple of extra helpfuls.
Good...
Okay, I'm not exactly sure if I've got a handle on what you need, however I think what you need to do is break the link after page 50. If you used the automatic text box feature when you created the document, try this next. Go to your preferences under General, make your auto page insertion...
See if there's something called "Type Tricks" available for Quark 6 -- they used to have it for earlier versions. It also does a handful of other neat things.
OOPS! I read your problem wrong the first time and thought you were trying to save the symbols from word -- sorry! The PC handles fonts poorly, so the usual option+character that works on the Mac doesn't apply here. Your best bet would be to either use the symbols font or a pi font such as...
The first simple thing you can do is try manually changing the extension to just .qxd -- get rid of the ASV. If that doesn't work, open Quark and then try to open the file from within quark. If that doesn't work and you keep getting "unexpected end of file encountered", usually you're screwed...
Your word file may be utilizing symbol fonts instead of the proper character set code for your basic symbols. Highlight the character in the word file, if it is indeed symbol, simply open the symbol font equivalent on your mac and it will be fine -- I do it all the time.
YES, there used to be something called Xdata -- I can't remember if it was a plug-in or extension or whatever. I have a demo, but I never needed to buy it, and I don't know if they're still in business. It would be exactly what you need. You control the information in the rows and columns by...
It depends on the source application -- there are different ways to handle this depending on where you're starting from:
word
word perfect
excel
spreadsheets
databases
In word or word perfect, you can attach style sheets before importing into quark (as long as you have the proper filters, and...
First of all, I hate In-Design, but it appears to be a necessary evil in the publishing industry -- I prefer Quark.
However, you will always get at least a slight "fattening" of the text when you convert to outlines in any application. The file will get larger, and the text is uneditable after...
