I am sorry I didnt read the topic very well.
Indeed it seems like an array controller vs video card conflict.
I will check tonight which IRQ &such are used by the Array controller in my system, this will give us a hint perhaps.
Yep, upgrading the Array firmware can be a good thing.
This...
From my experience:
Win XP prof runs fine on a Proliant 3000 with a:
System setup
1 PII 300 Mhz
384 MB RAM
2x smart array 2-DH controllers
All systems were 'recognized' fine, XP used its own drivers.
When u do have the need for a Compaq driver, you might want to try a Win 2003 driver or an old...
Are you sure you use the right firmware..
If you got a firmware version from 4/99 you are probably using a pentium-pro or PII 300 version..
Which is not the P12 system..
Ahh the old Compaq Smart Start issue
In order to boot from the smart start cd 's one must do following;
Remove the system configuration..
Nice isn 't?
Use floppy 's to load up the system erase utility
(download from HP site)
Mind you, this will completely erase the system settings, also the...
Sandav is right. Using 3rd party stuff gets you into trouble.
I do have to make a remark;
When using A-brand memory which is exactly same as the OEM mem, (like same speed, bank config, EDO, buffered, voltage, the lot), there will be no probs..
My own experience and those of my fellow system...
Yup Sanday is right
The system config switch (located just beneath the onboard memory banks) should be checked.
You must set the 1st switch to 'OFF'
(Which corresponds to 'onboard video use'. The default setting is ON)
Maybe you missed that one?
And/or double check Win2K video drivers..
Ghost" them on the new 72 disks..
Put the new disks in the system. Depending on scsi ID 's (&CD-rom) they will be something like F: & G:
Format them using preferably NTFS.
Ghost the C:\ partition onto the F: drive
Same goes for the D: -> G: drive
Remove the old 36GB 's
(You might also want to...
You might also want to check these cover switches themselves.
They tend to fall inward a bit after fair use (a.k.a. when removing the side/top covers a lot ;) )
And thus not making contact even when the covers are in place..
Processors need not only be same stepping but also have same cache size..
Win2k is more picky on SMP than other OS-es.
Regarding the memory
On your CPQ 3000, the proccies are PII 300 whith a 66MHZ FSB
This board -as riffty said- cannot go beyond 512MB RAM. What 's even more;
More than 512...
