    HTTP Compression

I can't tell you why they are not enabled by default other than to think that it could cause you big problems if they were. My experience of compression on IIS 5 is that it is very hit and miss. I think if you have a simple web site or application it may work OK. The applications I have did...

What is the best (good compression & fast) compression software

Thanks Managed to find a version of gzip for Solaris 8 that is large file aware. It is working ok now and is much faster than bzip2. I don't know who would use bzip2 with a large file, it's much too slow.

What is the best (good compression & fast) compression software

Hi I'm looking for compression software for Solaris 8 that is freeware but has reasonably good compression and is fast. I am taking a hot and cold backup of an Oracle database (tar file is about 6GB) and I can't use gzip as the file is too large, bzip2 works but is so slow (about 6 hours for...

Thanks to you both. I installed the package and replaced the link for tar to the new location. I left the old package in place as trying to remove it seemed too much like hard work!

Oracle 9i Installs Legato Networker - how do I remove this?

Franz Sorted this already, should have thought about this a bit more. I had a look in the scripts that did the install and found the packages that were added. The thing that threw me was that they are prefixed with ORCL and not LGTO as the Legato documentation described. Thanks Phil.
