The "pts" number is the network id, as opposed to a "tty" on a serial connection that is assigned when someone connects to the server. Basically I want to keep the same process id assigned to a user when the network connection dies.

There is a program called "screen" for Red Hat Linux that enables users that loose a network connection to get their same pts number back when reconnecting, thus enabling not to loose were they were in an application. Is there any such thing for Windows 2003?

Thank you for all of your help. What happened was /var filled and about 5 services had stopped running due to that.

I am able to view the /etc/inittab, and make changes if needed.

No one is able to get into the system, even the console, unless they are already in. This happened in the middle of the day. I'm hesitant to reboot with anything referencing the inittab. Any suggestions?

I have a volume group that is mirrored with 6 drives, one of them is logging errors and needs to be replaced. My question is, is there a way to see what drive another drive is mirrored to, and which one is the primary drive?

The other cd's contain things that are not actually need for AIX to function, ie, Java, xwindows, printer drivers, etc. I would suggest going to "smit software" and doing an "update to latest level", which will go through more of the cd's and load any needed file sets...

I don't believe you can make a bootable floppy, as the BOS needed to boot would not fit. You can make a bootable and restorable save by doing a "mksysb" to a tape device. You can do this through "smit mksysb"

If the default umask for AIX is 666, how can I set user umask so new files are created with permissions of 775? The "umask ###" command only lets you subtract from 666, it appears that I would need to add to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
