I am running SP2 already, so I'm okay on that issue. Also, the article you linked to was for a different error message.
I did what you specified in that bulleted list, but I'm still having trouble with the later "GOOD" commands you stated.
C:\Documents and Settings\DracInFlight>net use *...
I have two shares on a server that require different user accounts to access. (I have no control over the user access scheme, I just have the passwords for both accounts.) I would like to mount both of these shares concurrently.
When I try to map the second share, Windows returns the...
I'm asking a question about Windows XP, so telling me to upgrade to Vista isn't really helpful. Also, the netsh method works in Windows XP as well, and I already mentioned that I had looked into it and stated why it is not a good solution for me. Finally, my concern is not with storing the...
Does anyone know of a method or program that would allow me to set separate IP configurations for separate wireless profiles? (I'm currently using XP SP2's built-in wireless config utility).
I'm already familiar with the alternate configuration capability, but this only works if DHCP fails...
How does Windows detect whether a disk is Local or Removable? I can't see any real rhyme or reason. For example, I have two USB external hard drives and two USB flash drives. One hard drive and one of the flash drives detect as "Local Disk" and one hard drive and one of the flash drive...
This reminder is not a balloon tip, it is a very annoying pop-up window. (Wouldn't be a problem if it was a balloon tip, as those don't really interfere)
Thanks, but this is a bit off the mark. I am not concerned about automatic rebooting, I already have that off. I also already have Automatic Updates set to download and install at my choosing rather than automatically. (Basically, I've already done/looked at everything suggested). My concern...
Most likely what you will be looking for will be the Asterisk PBX software (asterisk.org). The basics are that the machine with asterisk and a card with an FXO port will be plugged into the phone line that you wish to use, and to the DSL connection so the calls can be forwarded over the net...
If you want to user a standard voice modem, the only thing I could find is this piece of payware for Windows: http://www.twilightutilities.com/PhoneServer.html. So far the best free option is Asterisk on a Linux box, but you will need a proper FXO card as opposed to a voice modem.
Solved, partially. Using Asterisk on the Linux server with a X100P card. Pretty much what I was looking for, except that I wanted to use a normal voice modem rather than having to buy any hardware.
When running automatic updates, there is an annoying pop-up nag screen reminding me to restart my computer. Choosing "Restart Later" only makes it pop up a few minutes later. How do I disable this nag?
Notes:
1.) I am NOT asking for a way to disable Automatic Updates. I want to continue to...
I am looking for any (free) client/server software combination for either Windows or Linux (ideally having the server run on Linux and the client run on either OS) that can do the following:
1.) Client connects to server over network
2.) Server places call using modem connected to phone line...
Unfortunately, I do not have enough hard drive space for everything to be on the array. Otherwise, I agree, that would be the ideal option. I need to use both the RAID0 array and the IDE drive I have in order to hold everything, so back to square one on that: should I put my OS or my data on...
This is a type of question I've seen many times, but never with any clear answer. I have a total of 3 hard drives, one standalone and the other two on a striped RAID0 array. The question is what to put on which drive. Here's my breakdown:
-OS and installed programs and games all on one drive...
Thanks for the informative post, bcastner. To answer your questions, I have been creating junctions using the linkd utility from the MS resource kit. They are plain folder junctions.
linkd C:\Media\Genre2\Album_NamE C:\Media\Genre1\Album_Name
What settings are you referring to for NTBACKUP...
@linney: Imaging software solutions won't really work for me in this case. I am trying to do this preferrably without the use of an intermediate image file. Also, I only wish to copy one directory tree, not a whole drive.
Thanks, that helps a bit. It's still a bit limiting though. For example, if I back up the folder (originally on C) and restore alternatively to D, the junction point still refers to the folder on C. I am not sure if the junctions are purely drive letter based, or specific to an actual drive...
I have a folder on my main drive for all of my media. For organizational purposes, I have used NTFS junction points where I want to put an album folder in two category folders, and this solution has worked wonderfully. The issue now is that I want to back up the folder, but with the junctions...
