    RDS.EXE - Problem

If you have a large database, (like, for example, ASTPSDAT.000 is 1-2 GB or bigger) then it will take for frickin' ever to do a defrag and keybuild, even on a 3GHz Xeon processor server. The processes run on one processor and don't use enough threads to take advantage of any speed, and at most...

Help with a multitude of Brightstor issues

Also, restore speed isn't a NetWare IP stack limitation - it's a Windows IP stack limitation (I say this because the Windows IP stack is what the ARCserve communications protocols are based on - not the "real world" of IP.) If you turn off nagle algorithm and delayed ack just for during the...

Restore by tree not showing full directory structure

Note also that "restore by tree" shows you what the client agent currently sees. If you want to restore stuff that's gone missing, you have to do a "restore by session." The tree that method displays will be complete, based on what's in the database for that session.

Upgrading from 11.1 to 11.5 - is it worth it?

The only reason I went from 11.1 to 11.5 is because there are no 64-bit Linux agents for 11.1 and the 11.5 agent isn't backward-compatible with the 11.1 server. I have not had a good upgrade experience, so if you don't have to, and it isn't free - don't. And if you do have to, try to set up...

    Postresql with Arcserve 11.5

You should set up a shell script that will run a dumpall to a backup directory, and back up the backup directory. I think you can call it as a pre- job but if not, use CRON to schedule it to run just before the backup is scheduled to run.

No Novell Network with Arcserve r11.5

You need to have the Novell Client32 installed on your Win2K3 server, >and< you have to be *logged in* to your tree. If you are logged in, using a user with "admin" rights, you should see your NetWare servers in the ARCserve Manager. The backup/restore manager screens won't have "NetWare...

Help with a multitude of Brightstor issues

The appropriate method for moving data from one NetWare server to another is to use the Server Consolidation utility, available as a free download from Novell. It will maintain trustee rights for you, automatically modifying them to the new server/volume location. Backup software is not built...

    More Fun with Client Agents

Because the job/agent has to be given credentials to access the files. The AS Manager is usually running on an administrator PC with administrator rights, and to add a server to AS manager you have to give it authentication info. So the AS manager has rights to set up the job. The AS Manager...

NNPAGENT must be loaded to restore non-netware partition

I think NNPAGENT is part of the Disaster Recovery Option. I don't use the DRO myself, so I can't be sure. It was around in ARCserve 6.x and 7. If NNPAGENT still exists, you can't tell from anything searchable on the CA site. If it doesn't exist in ARCserve 9 and later, I don't know why it's...

Netware Restore using agent from Windows 2003

Are you restoring from a NetWare backup to NetWare or from a Windows backup to NetWare? By that I mean, is the original server NetWare or was the origin Windows? It appears ARCserve 11.x pays attention to the filesystem it is backing up. If you back up a Windows server, it expects you to...

    novell is old-fasioned?

Came across this thread while doing a search for something else. I know it's over a year-and-a-half old, but: Novell is far from old-fashioned. Have you seen them lately? They have SuSE Linux, they have the Ximian project, they have the MONO project. eDirectory is still the best directory...

Migration from GW to Exchange 2000

Geez, a lot of you are getting stuck with Exchange. I disagree with a couple of posts in this thread that hint (or declare) that somehow Exchange is more solid than GroupWise. That gave me a chuckle. As most of the posts seem to indicate, the migration is a pain in the arse unless you've...

    Slow Printing in Windows 2K

Wirdo, Now you've set me off. [soapbox] No offense - I just can't let this lie. This is not a flame, I just have correct some misstatements in your post, and air some pet peeves along the way. Nothing personal... WhatI had posted was *not* a Netware printing issue. Netware is and continues...

    Slow Printing in Windows 2K

I don't think that's my problem. It has to be the spooler in Win2K. I also misstated the setup. I'm servicing an LPR print server across the LAN, so all that the local PC needs to do is spool the job and spit it over to the LPR server. I used to do the same kind of thing with NT4, without...

    Slow Printing in Windows 2K

I have this same problem. I look forward to finding the answer. When printing to a Netware queue, printing is lightning-quick, but when printing to a locally-served queue on the Win2KPro machine with printer attached slows to a crawl. If it's an unnecessary service, I want to disable it. If...
