Well lads and gents,
I simply used my newly created CD to re-install WinXP with the disabled ACPI function mentioned in the above post and it worked.
NO ACPI! Hallelujah! WinXP doesn't even give me the option to go into Standby Mode.
Great!
As far as the BIOS setting goes??? Dunno...
Hey BOKA,
Windows XP:
To Automatically disable ACPI:
With ACPI disabled in the BIOS, reinstall Windows over itself.
To Manually disable ACPI:
Copy the install CD to your hard drive, edit the Txtsetup.sif file to change the ACPIEnable value to 0. Save the file, and then rerun the installation...
I have been dealing with tech support with my soundcard and they have told me to disable ACPI in BIOS, reformat my HD and reinstall XP and disable ACPI during the reinstall.
The only thing in my BIOS about ACPI is 'ACPI Sleep Mode'. The only two options that I have to set it for are 'S1/POS'...
I want to format my HDs and start from scratch, but I have heard that it is a difficult process when you have NTFS drives.
I have formatted HDs several times using FAT drives. I am a little afraid to attempt it with these drives because I don't want to be stuck without a PC if it doesn't turn...
I ran defrag in SAFE MODE and had no problems at all.
Thanks for your help. I don't know which program it could be that is interfering. I close all that I am able to close.
Either Way, the problem has been resolved so that I can at least defrag my drive.
I greatly appreciate your help. I...
I ran chkdsk and I notices that there were files in the bad sectors. When I view my report in defrag it shows the following information: MFT size=57MB, MFT count=47,080, % in use=87, MFT fragments=3. How can I tell which file is corrupted?
I know that in Win98 to load SAFE MODE you would...
It seems to ALWAYS lock up when it reaches 3%. It shows that it is trying to move files, but the file is always different. I don't understand it.
When I run scandisk and check the box to automatically fix errors, it says that it will schedule it after a reboot, but it never performs it...
When I try to defrag my NTFS drive it locks up my computer every time. How can I get WinXP to defrag without locking up using the included defragmenter? Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks and God bless you,
Bobby

I would use Microsoft Email Support. I had a problem with the "Add/Remove Programs" missing from my computer. Microsoft replied to my email within a couple of days.
My problem had to do with installing StyleXP. They told me to uninstall it. It...
Probably the most simple way to find out if it is compatible or not is to use your WindowsXP disc. Insert it and when it starts up click on the option to "check for compatibility".
Here is a link that gives you the Office97 requirements to run the software. It will apparently run...
I have two 40Gb HD on my PC. I originally had Win98. When I upgraded to WinXP I chose to partition each drive to host each OS. When I start my computer, it asks me which OS I would like to use.
Since I still had some software that would only function using Win98, it was helpful, but I am...
Everytime I run Disk Defragmenter in WinXP to fragment my NTFS drive it locks up whenever it tries to move files. It defragments my FAT32 drive just fine. Does anybody know how to help it finish the job?
Thanks and God bless,
Bobby

Thanks! I appreciate the help. I don't know why I didn't think to look there and I don't know what the problem was.
I guess maybe I held the CTRL key and scrolled the mouse without knowing it.
Hmmm. . . anyway, problem resolved.
God bless you,
Bobby
I launched IE6 the other day and when it came up, my fonts were twice the size as normal. I hate the look of it.
The fonts on my desktop are the same, normal, correct size they have always been.
I haven't changed my fonts on my desktop or anything. I looked in my Internet Options folder, but...
Hmm. . .strange that your Device Manager doesn't show your processor. When I first upgraded to XP, I thought it was strange to have it, but I wonder why yours doesn't show??.
You might try flashing your BIOS to the most recent version. Go to your motherboard website and see if they have an...
Right click on "My Computer" / Properties
Click on the "Hardware" tab then on "Device Manager"
Next double-click on "Processors" and finally double-click on the recognized AMD 1500 processor.
Click on the "Driver" tab and finally "Update...
In WindowsXP it gives you the option to create a startup disk just like in Win98. All that disc does is start up a DOS boot screen.
Create the boot disc from your WinXP control panel and use it to boot your computer into XP DOS mode. You should be able to recognize the NTFS format HD and...
