    You can also run the repair permissions frm teh Disk Utility program AFTER you have recreated an admin (root) account. That can also clear up most problems.....Good idea to run that program every now and then anyway.

    You either have a bad disk, a bad drive, or even a bad or improper Firmware Version. Double check the minimium firmware(and hardware) required for 10.3....There were still some problems with the 10.2 on some "G3" computers 10.3 will be even more critical.

    A fully functional boot OS X CD Rom is not possible. Most OS X boot disks only perform Apple System Restore to a local drive. You can create/install OS X on a Firewire or USB Drive. You might find some other Apple "workarounds" if you check the Support Discussions at Apple's website.....
