Don't laugh too much at me, but it turns out a user had the file open the whole time. The reason I didn't catch this is because normally when someone has a file open and someone else tries to open it, a message comes up saying "This file is locked for editing by XXX". This message never came...
In our current setup we have a folder with one file in it. It is shared on our netowrk. The 'All Users' group has read and execute access to the file so everyone can view it, then we have a group (Group1) set up so that members of the group can make changes to the file as they need to. I just...
Yes, I would agree to check the capacitors. We use a lot of old Netvista's at work (the white case ones), and many of them had to be replaced due to bad capacitors. Definitely something to check out.

Actually I just reset my machine again. Now none of the office programs are working. They all come up with the "Application failed to initialize" error. Being as we use an image with office pre-installed, I'll have to format.

The same thing happens. I have rebooted a few times, logged off then on, etc. and a select number of times I have got this error (before the blank one): "Application failed to initialize properly (0x0000006)." I'm not sure if this is in reference to memory or the page file. Should I maybe run...
I have very little for details as to why this error is occurring, but here it goes. I locked my computer (ctrl, alt, del, then Lock), then left work for lunch. When I come back, I tried to get into my email, and now the only thing that pops up is an error message. Except there is no message...

Are you on a network? I know I've resolved this issue by making the user an "Authenticated User" by adding them to that particular group.

You could try the line out to your stereo receiver. Or get a convertor from stereo headphone jack (the jack that plugs into your computer's audio) to RCA (assuming your stereo system uses it) and then do it that way. You could hook it up as the second or third input devices (possibly called...
Here's the update. It was out of warranty, but only by about 20 days :( We managed to find another machine that was an exact match. And it wasn't in use. I swapped out the PSU and it worked perfectly! Still, I find it strange that the fans run but the rest wouldn't. Anyways, it works now...
I had a machine once that's power button was either on or off. So if it was set to on and you plugged it in, it powered up. If it was set to off and you plugged it in, nothing happened. I also have computers at work that turn on for a few seconds right away as soon as you plug them in. They...
It is a 6792-2DU IBM NetVista. I am not up to taking the board out, yet. Simply because I do not know if this machine is still covered under warranty for us. My boss has this information and I won't speak with her again until Tuesday. If it is covered under warranty I can simply have a tech...
I don't believe there is an onboard temp reading. I can't say for 100% sureness because I can't get anything to show up. And I can't get the heatsink off, if it is attached to the processor, the heatsink is way bigger and is covering any sort of processor release. Would I be out of line...
Hi,
Yesterday, I had a user working at their workstation. He said that he was working away when all of a sudden the screen went black (monitor still had power but was in standby), then the processor fan sped way up. I'm not sure what has happened here. I started it up and can hear the had...
I have a computer (IBM ThinkCentre S50), and am having a problem with the USB ports on the front of the machine. The user is trying to plug a flash drive into the USB port but it completely locks up the computer as soon as it is inserted. Only way to fix is to reboot. Wierd thing is, if we...
Actually with the program I've used before (DeepFreeze), it doesn't take any longer to boot. It doesn't actually make any changes to the drive, just makes you think it did. So when you restart it doesn't have to restore anything it's all still there. It's a very strong program, and I couldn't...
I know about the cab files, but I wasn't aware you could re-install using them. How do you go about doing this?

Sometimes when booting, even if your CD-Rom is listed as the first device you have to press a key when it asks, to boot from the CD.

Try checking task manager for running processes, and check startup.ini (msconfig) to see if there is anything starting that shouldn't be.
