takes forever to move between directories when opening files in Excel

I'm having a problem moving between directories when trying to open a file in Excel. It's taking over 2 minutes to move 3 or 4 levels in a directory. The same thing happens with Access. It doesn't happen with Word or Explorer.


I've defragmented the HD
Ran Spybot, Adaware, Norton
8 gig of free space on the HD
Tried repairing Excel

The PC is an IBM T30 laptop with XP SP2
768 mb RAM

Are you on a network? I know I've resolved this issue by making the user an "Authenticated User" by adding them to that particular group.

I'm on a network but it happens for both network files and HD files.
